Seeing as this is the Off Topic thread-Has anyone tried to break a serious caffeine addiction? I'm thinking of giving it a shot....

I quit drinking coffee about 18 months ago. I was getting migraines about 2-3 times per week and it was really becoming a debilitating situation. My doctor went through a log of my diet and stopped at the one glaring question on the questionairre. It asked "Do you drink coffee, How much? I put down 2-10 cups, aparently thats quite a bit. Sometimes, I really did only drink 2 :P I quit drinking coffee that day and the headaches went away. I didn't get any withdrawal headaches or other symptoms, but I have not ever been fully awake before 10 a.m. since. I am very grouchy in the morning too. God I want a cup of coffee and a cigarette now.

Alton Brown says that Brown Sugar now-a-days is just white sugar with molasses mixed in. Might be where you get that "molassessy" taste LGG.

Meh, well so much for being 'healthy'. Well, I love the taste, that's for sure. But, why go through all the process to refine sugar and take out all the molassy-taste only to put it back? That sounds totally counter-productive to me.

But, I do happen to love Alton Brown and Good Eats... so,

This is what I always buy from the organic store and I'm hoping that it is truly 'unrefined':

Demerara (also spelled "demerera") sugar's name comes from the Demerera River area of Guyana, where sugar cane was grown. Demerara is another unrefined, centrifuged, large-crystalled, light brown, cane sugar; it is slightly sticky and sometimes molded into sugar cubes. Some Demerara is still produced in South America, but most is now produced in Mauritius, an island off Africa.

I like to crack a raw egg in the coffee pot while it's brewing. Then I add a bit of cardamom and rosemary.

When I pour it into my mug, I sweeten it with a big dollop of Cool Whip.

Okay, no I don't...but to MY ears that sounds equally as wacky as honey in one's coffee!

We do spiced coffee very regularly - we grind our own beans (Columbian) and then add in cardamon and cloves to the grind and brew it all together - yum! I take mine double cream and one sweetner (no sugar for this girl) but Joe takes his black. I love the smell of it brewing.

I am a tea drinker in the morning - can't drink coffee until I'm up and having something in my stomach and I generally don't eat until around lunch time. I've been hooked on Dunkin Donut's Iced French Vanilla Coffee this summer - still get my fix several times a week :) .
