Yes its him that is being reviewed, he has to gain a higher level of clearance due to a change in his job. You could say it is routine, because even if he maintained the clearance he has now, I would assume at some point it would need to be updated and reviewed. He first asked his supervisors about it, almost 2 years ago and they told him he may have to get a letter of permission, but his commander did not write one as he believed it was not needed. He is active duty AF.

Hopefully Carla will see your post and comment, Minnew. Her husband went through a terrible time with security clearances. They weren't even going to let him marry her! :o

Carla! :help:

I have heard that if you are a contractor it takes alot longer to get the clearance and they are more stringent with the requirements. I guess if there is any issues, he will be taking it up with his supervisors and commander, with hope that it can get sorted out. Before we were engaged and talking about marriage he spoke with his commander to be sure marrying a "foreign national" would not cause any issues with his job. He was told it would not. At least I hope not.

Well, my husband wasn't a contractor, but his security clearance was such that we had to have their written permission before we could even start this visa process. Perhaps because he wasn't a contractor? The clearance had to come from "others", I can't say who and didn't involve DHS as far as I know. I would suggest though that this is something different as it wasn't my husbands security clearance that was the issue, it was MINE, that's why we had to go through a process, almost two years, before I could be cleared. Are you sure it's HIM that's having to go through clearance? If it is him, then it's something routine, and is not like our situation at all and I'm sure you'll be good to go!

interesting - i didn't have to get written permission from anyone prior to marrying nessa. what branch of the military does he work for? if air force, that might be why, as they are sticklers for rules and regulations.

Who are you directing this question to charles?

you :luv:

If he was maintaining a Clearance at a relatively high level - they pretty want to know when you breathed in and then out again from what I understand :)

My husband had a security clearance from when he was in the Navy, but it came in handy for his current occupation (he's a GIS Analyst).

In the Fall of 2007 his current employer wanted him to get a higher security clearance...we thought it was going to take forever because of me, and because a friend of his took 2 years to get hers, and she didn't have ties to a foreign national. Hubby did all of the paperwork, and got a temp TS clearance in a few weeks! The company doing the investigation came and spoke to me, asked about 100 questions, left, never called my family (only a few of his) and within 6 months had the full clearance.

We've been lucky with all of the immigration and clearance stuff...no one in the world has my name, so I fly through backround checks! :D

If he has a high enough security clearance, one should NOT be talking about it online!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I'm going for some dental surgery today. :( I can't believe the horrible luck I've had with my teeth here since moving to the US. I'd like to blame the HFCS, however I don't eat it (that I know of anyway!). I'm having two gum grafts today and 4 teeth pulled for preparation of a partial plate. I'll be out of commission as far as talking and eating anything other than pudding for several days.

Have a lovely day!

One truly knows very little about people on here/internet. What i find amusing is that some (not saying here, lol) are always worried about big brother watching, yet post so much personal info on the internet, lol

Back from RI! Drive back took a bit longer than going up! Damn you Connecticut!! Was soooo slow!! Time to clean up the place! 2 cats can leave a lot of hair around!!

I have an interview date for citizenship! August 13 at 1:05 pm. I don't know if I will be able to do same day oath or not - apparently either the oath ceremonies take place at 2 pm or the cut off for the oath ceremonies is at 2 pm and the ceremony at 3 - don't remember which. Regardless, now I feel like I am moving forward again.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
