Good morning! Rise and shine!

Good morning!

Well our truck is at the dodge service place today, the check engine light is on so we figured we may as well get whatever that is fixed before we take it for the provincial vehicle inspection!

Guess it's time to call the auto insurance place - blah

That's cool. Maybe see if you can get a job in a real estate office as an assistant or something like that while you decide if you want to become an agent. I have a friend who was a teacher who really wanted to be in real estate, so she get herself a job at an office as an assistant as the first step. You'll be able to network and see if it's the right fit for you without the major investment.

Yes that is what i was thinking of doing but even assistant is pretty hard to get. Nobody hires. Where we are is not a very big city :(

But I keep looking and have a few interviews. Hopefully something will come out of them.

Good luck Laure, I'm sure you'll find something. Sounds like you have some good experience on your resume.

As a lifelong West-coaster, I'm constantly amazed at how many cities there are -- and how CLOSE they are -- along the East coast. I mean...in Vancouver, the closest city is Seattle, 2.5 hours away. Portland is 5 hours away. San Fransisco is 14 or so away. Calgary...12 hours away.

When you're in pretty much any city on the East coast though, you've got several cities within five hours. I just love that. It's going to be great being able to make it to Boston, New York, Philidelphia, Pittsburgh and countless others on a mere day trip.

I don't know why I'm fascinated by this...

ahhh the naivete of a an east coast newbie.. I give you a year and you'll never travel further than your borough.. :) tee hee.. It always SEEMS that that's simple.. but when you factor in the cost of train, the cost of traffic and the cost of sanity. it might as well be a million miles tee hee

I have to agree with you about traffic!! It takes a long time to get in and out of NYC most weekends. The traffic is UNREAL! What should take 30 minutes to drive to usually takes double or triple that! I guess once you get out of the city it's fine... but still the traffic is horrendous.

My son volunteered my time to cook some food in January. He's participating in this "Foods from around the World" event at school and told them that I could make Nanaimo bars. So I get this letter from his teacher saying: "THANK YOU FOR VOLUNTEERING! We will need at least 300 servings as we are expecting over 700 people..."

Yea. Thanks Ethan... thanks. <_<

Mind you they are tablespoon servings but still.

So....last weeks interview for the Pro Shop was a farce and I'm glad that I 'didn't' get the job.

Managers were completely unprofessional in that they didn't show up for the interview! I got a lame excuse as to why they couldn't come. Plus, if the excuse were true, they should have phoned to cancel it, or have the balls to tell me the exact reason why I wouldn't fit. I have an idea why, but whatever. So I drove over an hour, to be there for less than 5minutes. Complete waste of time, energy and money. Me = angry that day.

BUT I always believe that something good can come from anything. When I got back home, I had a message from BB&T. I had gone to a jobfair in Winchester, VA which at the time seemed like a waste of time for me personally as most of the jobs you needed a security clearance. Well, I did happen to hand in my resume to a representative from BB&T and chatted with them. I was supposed to still apply online though, which I didn't, and no excuse for not doing so.

I guess my personality or whatever must have impressed, because even though I didn't apply, my resume got passed to HR in Falls Church, VA and they called.

I phoned back the next day (I had called the day before but they had left already) and it was basically like an interview over the phone...or more like a phone screen. I Still would have to apply online. Which I did this time *pat on the back*

I *LOVE* the assessment tests they have for jobs like that. My favourite part is the morality questions where you have the strongly disagree to strongly agree answers.

Here was my favourite one "Have you ever lied to parents?"

I bet that one is put in there to throw people who don't really read them. Or to weed out the complete brown nosers

So anyway, that was last wednesday, and today I got a call from one of the branches close to me about my interest in one of the positions they had, and I have an interview with them tomorrow :)

I hope this one turns out better. It's for a Teller position part-time with the opportunity for more than the minimum hours, and crosstraining in other positions, so perhaps the opportunity to move up in the company. Oh and it comes WITH benefits! Which I don't have now.

Plus, it's closer to where I live that that 'other' job so I can do my IT job in the morning, and make my way back towards my town. So while both are part time, I can be making more money to save for our house...or a WWII jeep, whichever comes first :D

I'll let you all know how it turns out!

Sorry that Pro Shop interview didn't work out, but sounds like they were very unprofessional, and maybe it's a good thing! I'm glad you're so optimistic about your job searches...companies I'm sure will see that as a huge asset! Best of luck!

Good morning everyone!

You could make mini butter tarts instead - might be cheaper and easier and they don't have those in the US either.

J&K - good luck with the interview - that sounds like an almost perfect situation for you.

I make something like a Nanaimo bar for XMas. exact the same except the yellow custard filling is a mint flavoured icing that I may or may not dye green. and the topping is dark chocolate and no coconut in the base, just a nice fudgy brownie.

And I lived in Nanaimo for YEARS... wasn't like we had the Nanaimo bar festival or anything, not that I recall...

Varba's friend made "A Canadian recipe" for dessert on Sunday and he said he couldn't pronounce it. I said "Oh, Nanaimo bars!". He did a really good job, the filling was a bit different than what I'm used to, but it was tasty.

My husband wanted to make some really fancy thai dish...

But we're Canadian! You know no one is going to be making Canadian food because no one thinks Canada has anything to offer that's different. So I am going to offer it and show them. :P
