I got called for jury duty... I feel so American now!

What is it with all this jury duty stuff! I have never known so many people who have been chosen for it! Even my BIL in Nebraska was asked a couple of months ago.

I have never, not once, been called for jury duty. Which is a good thing since I wouldn't do it

I don't think you can actually go, can you Nev? Because you have to be a US citizen I think, same as voting?

Trailmix, you wouldn't do it? But how would you get out of it, you'd need a really solid reason

I would tell them whatever I needed to tell them to get out of it. I'm not big on being trapped in enclosed spaces - they really wouldn't want me there.

Can you get out of jury duty by saying you aren't a citizen? Why should you serve on a Jury if you don't even have voting rights? :P

Edit: I clearly didn't read the last 3 posts, oops

Yeah non Citizen's can't be on a jury - well at least in Nebraska they can't - i'm supposing that is a Federal rather than a State law?

I'm sure Nevada knows that, she is just revelling in her Americaness for a moment

Yeah I think it was Eman who posted once she was called for jury duty too and she had to tell them she wasn't a citizen. I actually wouldn't mind it, I think it might be interesting, doing my civic duty :P

Law fascinates me, so I think I would get a kick out of it!

On a very random note, my husband just discovered I have the best of Stompin' Tom on my computer. After listening to a couple songs, I'm never going to live it down...

I am sure I have to be a citizen but I have to show up next month anyways it says. One of the questions on the slip they sent asks if I am a citizen. I'll find out. Whatever the case I am excited to stand up and answer awkward questions. My husband is like: "Please when you show up.. PLEASE behave yourself and don't say anything out of line"

Was it last yr that CBC hadf the search for the new Hockey night in Canada theme song??? I wish they had gone with Stompin toms song!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZWxErEbQkY

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I miss Bingo halls! Around here they are all in the basements of churches or something. I have been wanting to play bingo for a while. It's funny.. in college I had a bit of a Bingo problem. Most people go to college and drink, I was out playing Bingo.

Actually regarding jury duty - you are not eligible. When you send back your form saying you are not a US citizen that is the end of it. You don't have to appear because you are not eligible even if you did show up.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
