I agree!!! I can understand the point of the article though. The article that Kathryn originally posted was talking about a police chief researching his new police officers. Hopefully if the police chief saw a post in a shoe fetish forum he would just ignore it, but if they saw a post in a legalization of marijuana forum, that might be something to take note of (for a prospective police officer anyway).

It's kinda similar to this. My mom is an accountant and when she applies for new jobs they always look at her own personal credit. Even if her own credit was really bad that doesn't mean she will automatically be a bad accountant...but it would be a lot harder for her to get a job if her credit was bad. For the record, her credit is spotless. I'm jealous of my mom. :P

Your employer owns you, your body, heart, mind, and soul. If hourly, a couple of bucks an hour while you are punched in, if salaried, 24/7. While we may think we live in a democracy our jobs are in a dictatorship, screwing around on his time is good reason for dismissal. Most business computers are on a LAN, while you may have restricted access, the guys in IT don't. Many businesses also monitor all incoming and outgoing calls, there is the cell phone, but see many businesses require they be turn off before entering the door. You owe your soul to the company store.

Good for your mum!

But see her credit kind of shows if she can handle her own finances so that is understandable to me in the line of work she does.

But why can't you hold an opinion that differs from what you do or the position you must take at your job? So what if a police officer is pro-marijuana? That is his/her business. As long as they aren't mixing in those beliefs with their job to make sure people obey the law, then it's not a problem. And, the internet search maybe is only necessary after you begin to have problems with said employee, not before!

I still think though that's pointless and wrong. Any one can be a bad employee, whether they have a drunk photo of themselves on facebook or not.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Well, PERSONALLY, I agree with you. If a policeman is pro-marijuana I think that is fine as long as he separates his own beliefs with that the law of the country/state is. I was just using that as an example where I can see the point that the police chief was trying to make.

And mawilson! Welcome back!
