Second Wedding in Church

Hi all,

I've tried searching for some info on this subject but can't seem to come up with anything. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with having a small ceremony first and then having the big wedding later and have had it in a church.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm curious whether or not this is possible. Does the church allow you to have the full religious ceremony even if you are already married? Or is it a completely different ceremony or process. We would love it to be exactly the same as if we were getting married the first time.

Any info is appreciated

Thanks! :)

We did it! We had the full Roman Catholic ceremony after being married for four months, which was also a full religious ceremony. We just talked to our priest at the pre-cana, explained the situation with the visa, and they told us they would perform the ceremony twice as canon law allows for that. We were legally married the first time; the second was the big full-on display and celebration.

Ah good, I was hoping it would be as simple as that :) I understand that signing of the registry really can't be done again but the rest is largely ceremonial. The only problem we may have with that is we don't really want to tell my fiance's parents, as I think they would be dissapointed not getting to be at our official "legal" marriage and want the big second wedding to be their first. I hope we can create the day as so.

Your best bet is to chat with your minister/priest/whatever and see if they are comfortable doing that :) I don't know how close you are with your officiant but I imagine if it's a close relationship they wouldn't have a problem at all doing that for you (even if it isn't close I don't see why they would mind helping you make your special day:))
