Hello,

I am the wife of US citizen and we are waiting for my green card interview which will be around September. I am pregnant, my due date is December 4th. I would like to work a few months later after the birth.. I am wondering if there is a way to bring my sister here as a baby-sitter to take care of our baby, because i can't trust anyone else. Does anyone know anything about this? I appreciate your help in advance. Thanks.

No. An LPR can only sponsor a spouse or unmarried children for an immigration visa. No one can sponsor an in-law for an immigration visa. A person who wants to come to the US on a tourist visa must apply on his/her own, show sufficient ties to his/her home country and overcome the presumption that he/she would become an illegal immigrant. A person with a tourist visa is not eligible to work - this includes babysitting for a relative. It's understandable that there is no one people trust more than a relative to care for our child, but that is not a basis for a visa because that implies no one in America can be trusted with your child.

A work visa is probably impossible as there are lots of people who place their kids in child care.

Tourist Visa holder not allowed to babysit for relatives.

Foreign nationals in the United States on B-2 status are allowed to visit family and friends and travel throughout the United States. However, as tourists, they are not allowed to engage in any skilled or unskilled labor. This means that they may not perform any sort of activity for which an American resident would be paid. This could include working at a construction site, helping out at a friend or relative's place of business, or even babysitting a relative's children. A foreign national on B-2 classification who engages in any of these activities may have a difficult time qualifying for a tourist (or any other type of visa) in the future.
