It is good to remember that we respond as moderators to reported threads. In this case we are not the only ones who saw the post as insulting (and no, it was not a report from the targeted individual).

I agree Kathryn, this is a good point to keep in mind. But as a corollary, the mods should remember that a single post read out of context may not necessarily mean what you think it means. IMHO, the post was killed way too quickly for anyone to have given it a proper look-see. Maybe I was the only one besides Lancer who got that he was just being sarcastic, but he was just being sarcastic. Half the threads would have to be invisibilated if we started shutting down all the threads where a member was offended by someone else's sarcasm.

Having said that, I know modding is hard work, and you guys seem to get it right most of the time. I just think you got it wrong this time around.
