Well, this is something I have been worrying over for awhile. When I fist met my fiancee I asked her if she had ever been to the US. She said no, but that 5 years ago she had applied for a work visa? for Au Pair. She was studying in the Universiaty at that time and was learning English and thought it would be a good way to work and learn English at the same time. She said when she first went to the Embassy the CO interviewed her and said everything was ok but that she needed a new visa photo because her ears were not showing. She came back later with a new photo but a different CO asked her a few questions and then said no. She said the CO only gave her a piece of paper that said they were not convinced. Anyways, will this affect her K-1 visa. I have read other topics here that says it will not if a person has been denied a tourist visa...I assume she applied for a work visa. Does the Emabssy have a record of that? On the DS156 they ask if you have ever been denied a visa. I would guess she should just answer honestly. What are options if she is denied? Do you have to get your Senator involved? Man, I am going crazy worrying about this.

don't worry. It's going to be the same thing as if she applied for a tourist visa and got denied. Point blank DON'T LIE. NEVER EVER EVER LIE! When she is asked about it, she needs to be honest.

They will not deny her the K-1 visa because she tried to get a work visa 5 years ago! They might ask her questions about it, like why did she want the visa, ect, and she just needs to answer those honestly. Don't worry about it. You have plenty to worry about already without making yourself sick worrying about something like this. Just make sure she is prepared to answer questions about why she wanted to go to the US then (to study English) and about how the two of your relationship is genuine.

No, it will affect nothing. Unless she was denied a visa for some disqualifying reason (criminal record, drug abuse, etc.) A "normal" denial has no affect whatsoever. My wife was denied for a visitor visa two years before I met her. Never a question asked. DO NOT lie about it. You will be asked on the forms if she was ever denied a visa..answer "YES". You will be asked if she was ever denied entry to the US...answer "NO". It is not the same thing to be denied a visa and denied entry.

No worries...full steam ahead.
