I posted this in another section but I wanted to post it here too...

My fiance got his packet from the embassy in Tunis and there are a LOT of forms to fill out. The instructions say to return only DS-230 part 1 and DS-2001 now and keep the rest for his medical exam and interview. Here's my question.... should DS-230 part 2 not go with part 1 since it seems they are part of the same form? What is DS-2001? It's not in the packet at all. When he called to ask them a man told him not to worry about it and they would fill it out when they get DS-230 back from him but WHY do the instructions say it is something that needs to be filled out and returned?? blink.gif

It also says that I (the petitioner) will be getting something about the affidavit of support in the mail and that's all it mentioned about it. I haven't gotten anything yet and it's been almost a month. I emailed the embassy/consule before he even got the packet and STILL haven't heard back from them so I don't think emailing again will get me anywhere.

Anyone know what DS-2001 is and where I can get it if it's something he needs to fill out and return?

Should I go ahead and mail him the affidavit of support just to be safe?

Has anyone gone through this embassy and can kind of tell me what to expect?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Layla, I googled ds 2001, and it is a statement he signs attesting he has all the documents ready for the interview. We were not required to do the ds 2001 or the ds 230. We were instructed to call the embassy when all his documents were ready. I would definitely send the affidavit of support and the your financial documents asap. I dont know if you need the I 134 or the I 864, but you can download them here. http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/

I hope that helps.

Shukran!!!

I googled it now too and found it on the Brazilian website.... He called back and the man told him he does need it but he'll send it to him in his next packet.. the one that tells him when his interview is!

He also told him not to worry about the affidavit of support because we don't need it????

I am going to call them myself and try to get accurate answers.... make du'a for me!!! (F)

A little update.....

I just got off the phone with the embassy in Tunis. The man I talked to told me DS-2001 is not that important and he can fill it out after the interview is set up BUT if I have it online it's ok for us to go ahead and send it back with DS-230 part 1. The part that has me the most confused right now is that the man said we don't need an affidavit of support for a K-1 visa???? I have never heard this... I have been trying to get around needing this form from the very beginning because I wasn't working and EVERYONE (including two lawyers and the embassy in Cairo) told me there is no way around it.... you have to have it!!!! He assured me this was not his first K-1 and that they have never required this form. Has anyone else NOT need the affidavit of support for the K-1 visa??? I even asked him over again.. ok you don't need the affidavit of support right? he said right. you don't need my paystubs? he said no. you don't need my tax returns? he said NOOO, ma'am this is not the first K-1 we've done here! that is not required! that is only for K-3 visas.

I was like ok what do I need to send? He said nothing we have everything, your fiance only needs to bring the forms we sent him. I said what about proof of our relationship? Do you like phone bills or chat records or photos or what? He said NOTHING we have all that! ???????????

My first thought was HOW? another thread about spying comes to mind

Layla, That dude at the embassy makes me wonder. I have never heard of this. I would do the I-134 anyway. What if he gets to the embassy and they ask for it? Go ahead and send it along with your financial stuff and tell him to have it, just in case. I wouldnt risk not having one. And if they dont ask for it, no harm done. But if they request it and he doesnt have it, it will delay your visa.

Good luck sister, know you have my prayers.
