signed affidavits from family/friends

i've been looking at the example forms for these affidavits, and i just need some clarification on how they work.

i thought they were just letters from family and friends stating their belief in your relationship being genuine and also stating their relationship to you. but it looks like they have to swear in front of a notary and have the document officially notarised?

I don't think they need to be notarized but doing so will not hurt and makes it look a little more official.

Also, I never swear in front of my notary. She asks for my driver's license and $1 per signature. She then stamps and signs the document. I say thank you and she says You're Welcome. Very friendly.

that's good to know - i can probably get family to go to the effort of getting them notarised, but i feel like it's gonna be a real pain to ask my husband's and my co-workers to do something like that.

The effort needed to secure the visa and a life together is well worth it. Don't try to cut corners and deal with the resulting delays while you gather more info.

Take the time, do it properly, and enjoy your lives together.

Have them go to their bank. Most banks have a Notary on staff for clients. It's easy and usually free.

I had all my affidavits notirized and the IO did look at them during the interview.
