We are having applewood smoked turkey tenderloin with roasted sweet potatoes and some kind of veggie. Maybe we'll dig into the veggie tray we bought for Sunday football yesterday, that no one ate...

I was watching Iron Chef America last night and Cat Cora made savoury waffles with cheese and green onion. We had some blah waffles the other day and I was thinking that I would like to make savoury waffles - so I think I will try that this week.

However, for tonight - I don't know. I bought some fish yesterday, think we will have that with potatoes and....something.

Cheese and green onions sounds delicious! mmmmmm

Our roast last night was awful. I didn't want to make it a pot roast, because it had a nice layer of fat on top, and I thought I could get away with just roasting it, fat side up, so that the drippings would slide down the roast, keeping it moist. I had it on a very low temp and cooked it slowly. It was dry. :( The potatoes, green beans, and roasted beets were delicious.

I think I'm going to try my new Kitchen-Aid meat grinder attachment and mince the beef up, and make a shepherd's pie for tonight.

If you're going to do that you need to sear it, first, by either searing each side in a hot pan and then roasting it, or by putting it into a really hot oven (at least 475) for 10-15 minutes and then turning the heat down. Sorry it didn't turn out, Carla. It sounded good though! lol

Tonight I think we are going to have boiled dinner. I think they call it New England boiled dinner here. I discovered it and learned to make it when I lived on the East Coast. I will make a ham and pea soup of the lovely stock from it tomorrow.

I did fail to mention that Krikit, but I did sear it first, and did have it on high for the first 15 min. It was still really dry. Oh well, I think it was just the cut, or they had the label wrong in that it wasn't a oven roaster, unless they meant a wet roast. I do like a "dry" roast once in a while, but not a DRY one. YKWIM?

Yes, I know what you mean!

Sounds like it didn't have much marbling then. You know, since I can't find any real butcher shops around here, I find it really difficult to find well aged meat. :(

I think Varba and I are going to go out and buy an inexpensive Barbeque (grill) tonight. We will grill something for supper.

Here's a useful tip I learned in the restaurant kitchen last week.

One of the girls were using Kiwi to marinade with the meat she was preparing.

There is an enzyme in kiwi that tenderizes tough meat

I tried it and the beef was easy to take apart, i didnt even need to use a knife. Try it!
