So I just made french toast and I made this really great sandwich for my Husband with it - which would make a nice quick dinner I think. One can compare it to a Monte Cristo - but this is trailmix cristo.

I just made the french toast then fried onions and green pepper, added a bit of egg to those when they were done a la omelette and put that in the french toast, topped with parmesan and old cheese and put it in a low oven for about 10 mins. Absolutely delicious. He said he would like 4 of them.

Steaks and sour cream and onion mashed potatos. I have to pick up the steaks and have yet to decide what cut to get. I like rib eye, but mel is partial to filet mignon.

I'd suggest you get one of each...but I know you like to eat the same thing :hehe:

Well, by and large, Mel cooks most of our meals. For the simple fact that she is better than I am at it, except for a few items. I R in charge of cooking teh meats!!! It just pains me to cook a filet mignon medium-well (Mel's specifications) when clearly it should be medium rare

Kathryn, please ship some tomatoes up north!!! It's funny, when I was a kid, I had a traumatic tomato experience. A stupid camp counselor wouldn't let me leave until I ate my tomatoes. I think I was maybe 4 or 5 and just did not like tomatoes yet. So, as a kid, I associated them with being forced and avoided them.

Now, I love fresh tomatoes from the garden in a tomato sandwich ... toasted white bread, mayo, tomato slices seasoned with pepper, garlic powder and oregano .... yum!!!

Dinner tonight is bourbon steak tips on the grill, sauteed mushrooms, grilled zucchini and asparagus and potato salad.

I like my steak well done, so I guess we aren't getting an invitation for dinner.

I think 'well done' gets a bad rap because of all those people who don't know how to cook a well done steak properly.

It's not supposed to be burnt, or burnt on the outside but not quite done on the inside. It should still be flavourful and not dry (although I like it dried out too!!).

I also think it's funny that people think well done steak is somehow 'badddddd'. For instance, if your friend thought having a hamburger half cooked was fabulous (and a lot of people do) and you thought it was gross, it would just be accepted, but for some reason because it's steak - it's weird.

Also! (yeah i've thought about this haha) if you like your chicken sandwich with mustard but your Husband hates mustard, you would just leave the mustard off, you wouldn't say omg Hank!! you must put mustard on your chicken, it makes it taste so much better!! No of course not because you know Hank does not like mustard.

Just some thoughts on steak I thought I would share

Trailmix - I LOVE your french toast idea - I will definitely have to give that one a try too!

Autumnchk - if I could figure out a way to ship them to you without them going bad in the process I would!

I stirfried some garlic, onions and peppers with lots of Italian seasoning - added ground beef and let it all simmer together, then added thinly sliced potatoes, diced up yellow squash and lots and lots of chopped fresh tomatoes - and let it simmer some more. Yum!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I like my meats well done too.. I have tried them other ways but I don't like the taste of it... but like you said most places don't know hot to cook something well done, it usually ends up partially burnt... :P

the last couple times we have been to Red Robins we have ordered our burgers well done.. mmmm I never knew well done could taste like that.. the burger had no pink but it was still juicy and not burnt.. yum!
