so I made the sauce and it is simmering away as we speak.. I tried some of the sauce and it is yum!

I just fried up some onion, garlic and bell pepper.... and then added a tad bit of salt and pepper and soy sauce... then I added a can of sgetti sauce, some tomato paste and some banana ketchup... it just tastes like a sweet spaghetti sauce... oh and I added some meatballs and the hotdogs to it...

Tonight we are having bbq. I have some baby back pork ribs coated with rub, and have some drumsticks soaking in a brine solution and will smoke them on the bbq this afternoon, then coat them with my homemade bbq sauce. I have made a potato salad to go with it, and we will also have baked beans. I cannot wait!

So I guess we know who's going to host the BBQ when you move up here :D

I admit, I LOVE BBQing...John doesn't like cooking, the BBQ is mine. I picked it out, I bought it, and I do all the cookin' on it.

Haven't used it in a while. Maybe I'll do ribs this weekend.

Hmm cant say for a lot of other Filipinos, but I dont eat a lot of hotdogs.

Im no expert in the Philippine gastronomy, and I dont remember far enough to really know market prices there, but I suspect that one of the reasons hotdogs were originally added in the Filipino spaghetti recipe is probably because meat used to be expensive in the country. The country is more known for seafoods being enclosed by the Pacific Ocean. Hotdogs also add to the over all body of the sauce.

The balance between sweet and tart is the hallmark of Filipino spaghetti anyway, not really the hotdogs, and I think with easier access to foreign beef products, people add regular ground beef now a days :P

tomorrow's dinner was going to be honey baked chicken but I think I am going to make corn chowder instead... and I might make some honey yeast rolls.. I found a recipe for them today and they look yummy and simple to make...

http://penniesonaplatter.com/2009/11/28/honey-yeast-rolls-2/

Corn Chowder recipe... I have made this before and it is yummy!!

2 tablespoons butter

1 onion, minced

1 stalk celery, minced

1 teaspoon minced garlic

1/ 1/2 teaspoons salt

4 cups water (I think I used chicken broth last time, if you use broth I would cut back on the salt)

2 or 3 small red or white potatoes, diced

3 cups frozen sweet corn

1/2 cup milk

black pepper

chives or parsley

In pot melt butter. Add onion, celery garlic and salt. Cook stirring constantly until onion and celery begin to soften about 5 minutes. Add water and potatoes. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to low. Partially cover the pot and simmer gently for about 15 minutes or until potatoes are completely soft. Add corn and simmer for a few more minutes. Season with pepper, ladle into bowls, top with chives or parsley and serve.
