I married an American citizen in March 2009 here in Manila and he submitted his visa petition package for me and it was already received but still pending. I worked and lived in Dubai, UAE for 4 years and I read that Police certificate (from Dubai or any other countries you lived in for 2 years) is needed when you go for US visa interview. So, what I did was, I asked my friend in Dubai to submit all my documents needed for the issuance of police clearance (fingerprints authenticated by Dept. of Foreign Affairs and attested by UAE Embassy, Manila and other docs). It was issued but the problem is the validity of that document is only 3 months and I'm sure it will be expired once they call me for visa interview. But it has been 17 months since I left Dubai when I applied for that police certificate and I haven't been back there since. My question is, can I still show it to the Embassy personnel and just explain?

Hi we have a similar situation my interview is this coming friday june 26, I worked in Taiwan 8 yrs ago (1999-2001) for 2 yrs and I got my police cert. last 2003 it was the same police cert i submitted to the NVC for my ds230 and the accepted it. For my opinion I think its ok not unless you work there again after that.

hi, dont worry. i had my interview last june 11 and i brought my bahrain good conduct certificate (police clearance) which was issued in 2008. they accepted it and they didnt bother about the 3months validity. for as long as you have it, youre good. they are more concern about your NBI certificate validity.

good luck and God bless!

Consular officers don't care about expiration dates stamped on police certificates. They want them issued within a year. They're smart enough to figure out that if you haven't lived in a country since the clearance was issued, you haven't committed any crimes there since then either. The certificate from your own country should be obtained as close to the interview date as practical.

The expiration on the police certificate is not so important as what the consulate accepts. Most accept a document within one year. You can email the consulate in Manila and ask, or maybe someone here knows for certain.

By the way, the requirement for police certificate is for any country you have lived in for more than 6 months after age 16...not two years.

Thanks Gary for pointing out that it's for any country after the age of 16 for 6 MONTHS, not 2 years. I was about to do that but you beat me to it!

Also, I'm a bit confused about some of the above posters? As pushbrk said, the consulates usually want the police certificates within 12 months (1 year) of when they are issued and don't care about the expiry date on the form. However, jellya said that she had a police cert from 2003 and it was accepted?? Which is the true story? Was jellya just lucky that her consulate accepted the form?

hi marina del, I think the NVC accepted it co'z I was there for only two years and after that I stayed here in Philippines up to present. The one that I had was the pcc when I was abroad for two years.

I'll be having my interview this coming friday and today I'll go get my up dated local police certificate here in my place.

Read again. I said more than what you quoted. Both are correct. They should accept an old police certificate if you haven't lived in the country since the certificate was obtained. The 12 months is for your home country. Answers to immigration questions tend to vary with the circumstances.
