Hi! Good evening to visajourney members.. I'm an American citizen residing here in California working as a RN.. I was born here in USA but then my parents decided to go back to Philippines when I was 4 y/o.. Then after I finished my college,I went back here in USA last 2007 and I've been a RN for almost 2 years.. I just have a question regarding the Fiancee visa.. I decided to arrange the papers of my Fiancee who is currently living in the Philippines right now thru Fiancee Visa(I first met her when I was 12 y/o and we've been in a relationship for 4 years). She graduated from nursing school last May,2009 and I just want to find out..Before she's going to be here in California, does she still need to take her local board exam in Philippines before she can practice to be a RN here in California? Is the local board exam required before you could take the NCLEX? What other test does she need to pass before being eligible to be RN here in California?

I know the other things she need just in case she only needs to pass the NCLEX exam (like SSN, working permit and being married when she will be here in USA).. I would really appreciate all your help.. Godbless to all!

NCLEX lang, hindi ko nagamit ang PI Nurse license ko, kasi hindi naman magagamit yan dito sa US.

Please tell your fiancee to apply to BON(California and have her ATT)

I don't know the answers to your questions, but I would suggest checking out the California Board of Nursing web site. Or, simply phone the BON and ask them. I called the Washington State BON regarding some questions that my wife had. They were very helpful. The Washington State Board of Nursing even has a specialist who answers questions about the requirements for foreign nurses.

If I remember correctly, each state has it's own requirements, and they can be very different. What I am getting at is the idea that you might want to check out the RN requirements for more states than just California, because you may want to live (and work as an RN) in another state some day. In that case, you would be subject to that state's requirements.

Good luck on your journey...ingat

Thank you Tahoma for your reply.. That's what I did last Monday.. I called the BON here in California, but I was on hold for like 30 minutes.. And finally I spoke with someone from the BON.. I tried to explain to her my situation and I think she didn't get my point/situation and I feel like she doesn't know the answer to my questions.. First, she said that it is required and then I repeat and explain again my situation and she said it's not required here in California.. So I ask her again and explain all over again, she keeps telling me that I should check their website which I already did, do fingerprints that is not related to the question and so on.. So I just say thank you and I'm just going to call again next time.. So I'm planning to call them again when I'm off from work. I'm also hoping that I could find out here in our forums if someone has any ideas or maybe share their experience to me here that could really help me find the answers to my questions.

My fiancee applied to CA B.O.N. in order to get their permission to take the test (ATT) in Hong Kong.

I had to find out some things...they were very good at answering emails as opposed to telephone calls.

How long did they reply to you through email? I send an email last week to BON Ca but still no reply from them.
