Hello,

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I haven't been able to find the answer to this question. I just meet the 125% guidelines, so my parents are co-sponsoring me for good measure. They more than meet the requirements, but they own their own business. I've asked them to supply three years of the tax transcripts, but what do we do about the letter of employment and the paystubs?

Also-my mom is very cautious about giving out too much personal information and would prefer to give 12 months of bank statements vs. the tax transcripts. Would this be a problem or should we just play it safe and send in the tax transcripts? I want to do everything right the first time so that we don't have any hold-ups w/this process.

Thanks!

Letter of employment isn't required.

Pay stubs are good but you could be successful without them (I didn't supply any).

Only the most recent tax years return/transcript is required - 3 would definitely do the job (especially for self-employed individuals). And am not sure how to ease the concerns about privacy - this is the US government that would be reviewing the documents after all.

Bank statements would not really be proof of income.

Also, looking forward a bit when your then spouse adjusts status you will file another affidavit of support(I-864) that is a long term commitment.

Be sure that if using a co-sponsor they are prepared to supply the needed info.

If your folks don't want your fiance to know their financials they can submit the I-134 directly to the embassy.

Letter of employment and check stubs not required, particulalry for self employed. Bank statements do not substitute for tax returns. For a self employed person the best thing to present is tax transcripts (get them from IRS for free) which actually reveal less information that a tax return, but all the things they need, and I would also attach a bank letter. Bank letters are preferred and, again, reveal much less information that bank statements, but everything they need.
