Its not important. I just find it silly - as I said.

Shooter was the one who claimed that "90% of the people on the most wanted list are illegals".

I made no such claim. I only said that it was not unreasonable to assume - statistically

speaking - that most of them are, in fact, Mexican, since 85% of them have Hispanic names.

I have no idea what their legal status is and neither does he.

Since when have facts or reason ever stood in shooter's way?

Wrong.

Most Hispanics in the US are Americans born in the US.

If you sample a random group of Hispanics, most ot them will be American citizens - either born here or naturalized here.

Again, Mexicans are the largest Hispanic group in the US.

If you sample a random group of Hispanic illegals, most of them will be Mexican illegals.

If you sample a random group of Hispanic persons who are US citizens, most of them will be Mexican-Americans.

As of 2006 US Census data,

There were 43,168,000 Hispanics in the United States.

Of those, 25,933,000 (60.1%) were native-born in the United States.

17,234,000 (39.9) were foreign born.

Hence, the bold statement above is wrong. Mexicans are not the largest Hispanic group in the US. Native-born Americans (60.1%) are the largest Hispanic group in the US.

The bottom two statements may be true. They do not derive from your first statement, which is factually false. You have not backed up your bottom two statements with any data. I tend to agree that you are right that the majority of illegal Hispanics in the US do come from Mexico, that is my understanding as well.

Regarding your last statement define "Mexican-American". Hold dual citizenship? Have Mexican ancestry, or other cultural attachment?

Besides --- if they are US citizens, what difference does their hyphenated state make? I'm a hyphenated American. BFG.

If you read the link you will see:

"non-U.S. citizens made up 9.0 percent of their total jail population in 2008"

Maybe you can reciprocate and point me to the FBI link you are referring to.

prisoners identified as illegal are often removed from local and state jails to federal detention. my comment was to the effect that 30% of prisoners in federal jails were illegals.

we also know that about 78% of all illegals in the US are mexican (stats i posted more than a month ago) and that other hispanics make up about 9% of illegals.

search my post history and you will find the links.

Quit being lazy and asking people to make your point for you. Do you're own research.

Now you're just nitpicking. Native-born Americans can be of Mexican descent, no?

  • There were 201,142 prisoners under Federal custody at midyear 2008.
  • There were 28,995 non-U.S. citizens under both State and Federal custody at midyear 2008.
  • Even if 100% of those non-U.S. citizens were in the Federal system, that still only accounts for 14% of the total population.
Let's look at it from another perspective:

  • 20% of the entire combined State and Federal prison population is of Hispanic or Latino origin.
  • If, as you say, 78% of the non-U.S. citizens are Mexican illegals, then that accounts for 11% of the total Federal prison population..... provided 100% of that population is in Federal prison.... which they are not.
Still doesn't add up to 30%.

Anywhoo.... off to enjoy my day.
