I saw this yesterday, so I checked the Singapore Airlines web site to see if they had similar deals for San Francisco to HCM. I was looking for a departure early in August, and return about 2 weeks later. I tried various dates, and even ticked the "+/- 3 days" option (or whatever it was called) - no dice. It always said "No seats. Try a different day". It didn't produce results unless I selected business class, and those seats were definitely no bargain rate, and most had two stops - one in Hong Kong, and one in Singapore.

I guess if they had a similar deal for San Francisco then those flights are booked full for economy. :(

The agent I use usually books me on EVA because they have some sort of affiliate arrangement with them, so they get pretty good rates. The same agent also takes care of my domestic booking on Vietnam Airlines from HCM to Phu Bai. They did book me on Asiana last December because EVA was booked full, and they just happened to catch a cancellation on Asiana moments after it became available. Lucky for me 'cause it saved me $1000! :D

Airfare is cheap because only the bravest souls would dare to try their luck on the air while the Swine flu outbreak is at its highest alarm level, according to the W.H.O.

I personally would only fly if it's an urgent matter, due to the reason mentioned above. (even if the fare is free, I still will not fly)

Just remember, life over there in VN is NOT real! Your money will be worth a LOT less once you get back over here. Back to reality, cowboy!

From what I've seen, it doesn't look like the percentage of people dying from this strain of flu is really any higher than the percentage who die from any other strain. What appears to be unique is that this strain has killed people who aren't normally considered "high risk" for a flu fatality; e.g., elderly, infants, and immune impaired.

People rarely get these sort of viruses from airborne bugs anyway. They usually get it from touching contaminated surfaces. Somebody with the infection coughs or sneezes onto their hand, and then leaves the bug on the lavatory door handle. Just bring some WetNaps to clean your hands after touching anything that doesn't belong to you, and you should be fine.

Anyway, I think airfares are fairly low because the economy sucks, so demand for vacation travel is down.

W.H.O. gives a $#!t swine flu if you go to VN!!!! It's the otherway around! Vietnamese people are afraid of our Americans who would bring the swine flu back to VN.... People who are from the US, Australia, Canada etc. are screened for swine flu when travel to VN. People don't get swine flu for flying but getting from not washing their hands after shaking hands or touching contaminated surfaces.

Come fly away!

My fiancée has booked her one way ticket from Bangkok through Seoul to Washington DC for about $1,000. The online store that sold her a dog kennel also sells airline tickets.

Christmas rates are always higher due to family being off from school and wanting to go home for the holiday. Usually December flights are packed.. Much like before the new year celebration bump in prices...

Does this price include taxes? Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Not that I would be going to Vietnam but when I chose JFK to Ho Chi Minh (SGN) the price came out to be at $1749.70 from, say, Aug 21 to Sept 4th. I would be going to Laos. I even tried EWR to BKK on and that was over $1300. This is off of Singaporeair.com, right?
