Wasn't there a thread about this a few months back? Specifically stating that, yes, immigration can (and has on occassion) check out Facebook and MySpace pages to verify the authenticity of a relationship.

Not to say that it happens to everyone, but I remember a discussion reporting that it has begun to happen on occassion and that it is part of the terms of use that gives access of these sites that to the government even if they aren't your "friend".

If USCIS is checking Facebook to verify the "authenticity" of anything they need to be confined to an asylum! NO ONE CARES ABOUT FACEBOOK, get over yourselves.

Though I do not doubt some one posted it...it would be as accurate as anything you see on Facebook.

Good grief.

I'd still say that setting privacy settings to friends only would be a good bet overall.

And, of course, not adding any conspicuous USCIS employees to your friends' list.

I would believe Diadromous Mermaid (see the earlier thread) over those here who would gainsay her simply because of their own wishful thinking. I further consider it completely feasible that the consulates might, and would, scope any available posted information. It is very disturbing that any VJ poster would flatly say "no governmental entity is doing something" when no VJ poster can possibly have such insider knowledge, unless he/she is indeed an insider. It is prudent to take every precaution to protect ourselves by ensuring that information "out there" is accurate when accuracy could count.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I'd really want them to be neighbor on Farm Town, tbh.

NO ONE CARES ABOUT FACEBOOK, get over yourselves.

Maybe not in this case, but actually, a great number of people and companies care about Facebook. People have been fired because of inappropriate content/photos, kids have been suspended from schools, etc. Just like anything else on the internet, once it's out there, it's out there for good. You may delete it but that is no guarantee it isn't there.

While the OP is talking about something different, the point is, your comment that 'no one cares about facebook' is completely false. Which is why

a) people should never put anything on FB (or any other site) that could give too much personal information or that they don't want anyone else to read

and

b ) they should know their privacy settings

and

c) it's not a bad idea to have an email address specifically for things like that with no association to your real name

Just saying.

I'm a bit torn on this. I kinda agree with Gary and I kinda agree with jundp on this one.

I agree with jundp in the sense that yes, a lot of companies do care about facebook and perhaps USCIS is one of them (in that they might check our FBs)

But I agree with Gary in that I really doubt that USCIS would deny a visa because it said that you and your fiancee where only friends!

And for the record, USCIS has been known to check VJ. Maybe not looking for individual people (I don't know the answer to that one!) but they definitely troll around VJ to get ideas about things (like new ideas of how to break their laws).

Just adjust your privacy settings and do not join any networks that are public. That should remedy and concerns you have. I seriously doubt the adjudicators are looking at FB, although, that could explain slower processing times...... haha
