This post is so freakin' awesome!

With this post, I am missing my husband so much because we love listening to music together... He's at work out of town in PA inspecting a power plant there... he'd be gone for 8 days and I'm alone with our beagle.

Jay Z, Marvin Gaye, Lil' Wayne - Hello Brooklyn

Can ya tell I'm a hiphop fan, hee hee

like a mamma you birthed me, Brooklyn you nursed me

schooled me with hard knocks, better than Berkeley

they say you murked me by the time I was 21

that ###### disturbed me, but you never hurt me

hello Brooklyn, if we had a daughter

guess what imma call her, Brooklyn Carter

when I left you for Virginia it didnt offend ya

cause you know I only stepped out to get dinner

and im eating, too much or just extra

so much so that dinner now turned into breakfast

I only roll lexus to hug your road

I love your corners, im half your soul

Hello Brooklyn

hello Brooklyn how you doing

where you going can I come too

and if I can imma be your man

you could be my lady and have my baby

and drive my car and drive me crazy

wherever your going baby girl just take me

cause im so taken if you taken

Im just saying baby im just saying

hello brooklyn

whats your story, she said she's eating on the run but she aint Nore

she said she's got a man but he aint worried

but baby imma have to ride him like Orie

she said she love B.I.G. and she likes Tupac

and when I said Jay-z she said it's the roc

imma leave it like this like this like that

where Brooklyn at, where Brooklyn at

have you seen her, and when she tell you something you better believe her

she told me she like my New Orleans deminer

and so I said goodbye Katrina and Hello Brooklyn

Glad you are enjoying it, I love your posts! I'm enjoying the thread too.

I wasn't sure who was posting -- if it was Cherry? Or Edward? I was guessing it was the native-born American Edward, based on the selections. I'm glad to see it's Cherry, a newer arrival to this beautiful country. You know some truly great American music - Congratulations, that's awesome!

The lyrics to the Chuck Berry song -

Did I miss the skyscrapers, did I miss the long freeway?

From the coast of California to the shores of Delaware Bay

You can bet your life I did, till I got back to the U. S. A.

OMG! OMG! That is EXACTLY how I felt when I came back to the states last year, after living overseas for about 5 years. Now that I'm back, I feel like I never want to leave America again.

And of course, the Lee Greenwood song brings a lump to the throat. That's just amazing, how it can draw out our patriotism and love for America without being at all political. There's so much bickering between left and right... it's great for a change to salute the flag, remember the fallen, and recognize those who serve and make this country such a great place to live.

Al Ahly -- I never would have guessed you for a rapping fan... very cool selections! thanks!

The Ballad of Billy The Kid - Billy Joel

From a town known as Wheeling, West Virginia

Rode a boy with a six-gun in his hand

And his daring life of crime

Made him a legend in his time

East and west of the Rio Grande

Well, he started with a bank in Colorado

In the pocket of his vest, a Colt he hid

And his age and his size

Took the teller by surprise

And the word spread of Billy the Kid

Well, he never traveled heavy

Yes, he always rolled along

And he soon put many older guns to shame

And he never had a sweetheart

And he never had a home

But the cowboy and the rancher knew his name

Well, he robbed his way from Utah to Oklahoma

And the law just could not seem to track him down

And it served his legend well

For the folks, they'd love to tell

'Bout when Billy the Kid came to town

Well, one cold day a posse captured Billy

And the judge said, "String 'im up for what he did!"

And the cowboys and their kin

Like the sea came pourin' in

To watch the hangin' of Billy the Kid

Well, he never traveled heavy

Yes, he always rolled along

And he soon put many older guns to shame

And he never had a sweetheart

But he finally found a home

Underneath the boothill grave that bears his name

From a town known as Oyster Bay, Long Island

Rode a boy with a six-pack in his hand

And his daring life of crime

Made him a legend in his time

East and west of the Rio Grande

Can you tell by now that I'm a major Billy Joel fan

This song fvcking rocks, I've always loved it!

Despite the name it's not really about Miami at all --- It's a real Nyu Yohkah song!

Miami 2017 - Billy Joel (Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway)

I've seen the lights go out on Broadway

I saw the Empire State laid low.

And life went on beyond the Palisades,

They all bought bright Cadillacs

And left there long ago.

We held a concert out in Brooklyn

To watch the Island bridges blow.

They turned our power down,

And drove us underground

But we went right on with the show...

I've seen the lights go out on Broadway

I saw the ruins at my feet,

You know we almost didn't notice it

We'd see it all the time on Forty-Second Street.

They burned the churches up in Harlem

Like in that Spanish Civil War

The flames were everywhere,

But no one really cared

It always burned up there before...

I've seen the lights go out on Broadway

I watched the mighty skyline fall.

The boats were waiting at the Battery,

The union went on strike

They never sailed at all.

They sent a carrier out from Norfolk

And picked the Yankees up for free.

They said that Queens could stay,

They blew the Bronx away

And sank Manhattan out to sea...

You know those lights were bright on Broadway

But that was so many years ago...

Before we all lived here in Florida

Before the Mafia took over Mexico.

There are not many who remember

They say a handful still survive...

To tell the world about...

The way the lights went out,

And keep the memory alive...

Actually I have a very eclectic taste in music, but just happen to LOVE hip hop, r&b and of course Arabic music.

Anyhow here's another favorite.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama

Big wheels keep on turning

Carry me home to see my kin

Singing songs about the Southland

I miss Alabamy once again

And I think its a sin, yes

Well I heard mister Young sing about her

Well, I heard ole Neil put her down

Well, I hope Neil Young will remember

A Southern man don't need him around anyhow

Sweet home Alabama

Where the skies are so blue

Sweet Home Alabama

Lord, I'm coming home to you

In Birmingham they love the governor

Now we all did what we could do

Now Watergate does not bother me

Does your conscience bother you?

Tell the truth

Sweet home Alabama

Where the skies are so blue

Sweet Home Alabama

Lord, I'm coming home to you

Here I come Alabama

Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers

And they've been known to pick a song or two

Lord they get me off so much

They pick me up when I'm feeling blue

Now how about you?

Sweet home Alabama

Where the skies are so blue

Sweet Home Alabama

Lord, I'm coming home to you

Sweet home Alabama

Oh sweet home baby

Where the skies are so blue

And the governor's true

Sweet Home Alabama

Lordy

Lord, I'm coming home to you

Yea, yea Montgomery's got the answer

Lynyrd Skynyrd -- iz zee azzzzommmmeee!!

(Even if they do mock my Canadian compatriot Neil Young  )

Here are a couple of Springsteen selections.....

Nebraska Bruce Springsteen

I saw her standin’ on her front lawn just twirlin’ her baton

Me and her went for a ride sir and ten innocent people died

From the town of lincoln nebraska with a sawed-off .410 on my lap

Through to the badlands of wyoming I killed everything in my path

Erie Canal (traditional, covered by Bruce Sprinsteen)

I've got a mule and her name is Sal

Fifteen miles on the Erie Canal

She's a good old worker and a good old pal

Fifteen miles on the Erie Canal

We haul'd some barges in our day

Filled with lumber, coal, and hay

We know every inch of the way

From Albany to Buffalo

Low bridge, everybody down

Low bridge, yeah we're coming to a town

And you'll always know your neighbor

And you'll always know your pal

If ya ever navigated on the Erie Canal

We'd better look around for a job, old gal

Fifteen miles on the Erie Canal

You can bet your life I'll never part with Sal

Fifteen miles on the Erie Canal

Get up mule, here comes a lock

We'll make Rome 'bout six o'clock

One more trip and back we'll go

Right back home to Buffalo

Boston "Rock & Roll Band"

Well, we were just another band out of boston

On the road to try to make ends meet

Playin all the bars, sleepin in our cars

And we practiced right on out in the street

No, we didnt have much money

We barely made enough to survive

But when we got up on stage and got ready to play

People came alive.

Rock and roll band

Everybodys waitin

Gettin crazy

Anticipating love and music

Play, play, play, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Dancin in the streets of hyannis

We were getting pretty good at the game

People stood in line and didnt seem to mind

You know everybody knew our name

Livin on rock-n-roll music

Never worry bout the things we were missing

When we got up on the stage and got ready to play

Everybodyd listen.

Rock and roll band

Everybodys waitin

Gettin crazy

Anticipating love and music

Play, play, play, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Playin for a week in rhode island

A man came to the stage one night

He smoked a big cigar

Drove a cadillac car

And said, boys, I think this bands outta-sight

Sign a record company contract

You know Ive got great expectations

When I hear you on the car radio

Youre goin to be a sensation!

Rock and roll band

Everybodys waitin

Gettin crazy

Anticipating love and music

Play, play, play, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

This one is a two'fer.

Same song, two fantastic performances.

The original Motown incarnation by Martha & The Vandellas.

And the amazing 80s revival by Bowie&Jagger.

Awwwezzzommeee!

Dancing In The Streets

Calling out around the world,

Are you ready for a brand new beat?

Summer's here and the time is right

For dancin' in the street

Dancin' in Chicago

(Dancin' in the street)

Down in New Orleans

(Dancin' in the street)

In New York City

All we need is music, sweet music,

There'll be music everywhere

There'll be swingin' swayin',

And records playin',

Dancin' in the street

Oh it doesn't matter what you wear,

Just as long as you are there.

So come on every guy, grab a girl,

Everywhere, around the world

There'll be dancin',

They're dancin' in the street.

This is an invitation,

Across the nation,

A chance for folks to meet.

There'll be laughin' singin',

And music swingin'

Dancin' in the street

Philadelphia P.A.,

Baltimore and D.C now,

Can't forget the motor city

All we need is music, sweet music

There'll be music everywhere

There'll be swingin' swayin',

And records playin,

Dancin' in the street

Oh it doesn't matter what you wear,

Just as long as you are there.

So come on every guy, grab a girl,

Everywhere, around the world

They're dancin', dancin' in the street

Way down in L.A.,

Every day they're dancin' in the street

Lets form a big strong line,

And get in time,

We're dancin' in the street.

Across the ocean blue,

Me and you

We're dancin n the street

this was a lot of work scandal!

In the light of the sun

Is there anyone? Oh, it has begun

Oh dear, you look so lost

Your eyes are red, the tears are shed

This world you must have crossed, you said

You don't know me

And you don't even care, oh yeah

And you said, you don't know me

And you don't wear my chains, oh yeah

Essential yet appealed

You carry all your thoughts across an open field

Where flowers gaze at you

They're not the only ones who cry when they see you

You said you don't know me

And you don't even care, oh yeah

Well you said you don't know me

And you don't wear my chains, oh yeah

She said I think I'll go to Boston

I think I'll start a new life

I think I'll start it over

Where no one knows my name

I'll get out of California

I'm tired of the weather

I think I'll get a lover

And fly 'em out to Spain

Oh yeah and I think I'll go to Boston

I think that I was tired

I think I need a new town

To leave this all behind

I think I need a sunrise

I'm tired of Sunset

I hear it's nice in the summer

Some snow would be nice, oh yeah

You don't know me

And you don't even care, oh yeah

Boston, where no one knows my name

Where no one knows my name

Where no one knows my name, yeah

Boston, where no one knows my name

More? Of course more! Back to the Boss!

Bruce Sprinsteen - Highway Patrolman

My name is Joe Roberts I work for the state

I'm a sergeant out of Perrineville barracks number 8

I always done an honest job as honest as I could

I got a brother named Franky and Franky ain't no good

Now ever since we was young kids it's been the same come down

I get a call over the radio Franky's in trouble downtown

Well if it was any other man, I'd put him straight away

But when it's your brother sometimes you look the other way

Me and Franky laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood

Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood"

I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother would

Man turns his back on his family well he just ain't no good

Well Franky went in the army back in 1965 I got a farm deferment settled down took Maria for my wife

But them wheat prices kept on droppin' till it was like we were gettin' robbed

Franky came home in '68 and me I took this job

Yea we're laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood

Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood"

I catch him when he's strayin', teach him how to walk that line

Man turns his back on his family he ain't no friend of mine

The night was like any other, I got a call 'bout quarter to nine

There was trouble in a roadhouse out on the Michigan line

There was a kid lyin' on the floor lookin' bad, bleedin' hard from his head there was a girl cryin' at a table, it was Frank they said

Well I went out and I jumped in my car and I hit the lights

I must of done 110 through Michigan county that night

It was out at the crossroads down round Willow bank

Seen a Buick with Ohio plates behind the wheel was Frank

Well I chased him through them county roads till a sign said Canadian border 5 miles from here

I pulled over the side of the highway and watched his taillights disappear

Me and Franky laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood

Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood"

I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother would

Man turns his back on his family well he just ain't no good

Any homage to the Boss is remiss without Jungleland. And gosh darnit, I'm gonna insist that Jungleland complies with the rules here!

And just so's you're all aware I believe that "Barefoot girl sitting on the hood of a Dodge, Drinking warm beer in the soft summer rain" is the coolest lyric ever composed by anyone, ever, period. It does not get any better than that. So there.

Bruce Springsteen - Jungleland

The Rangers had a homecoming

In Harlem late last night

And the Magic Rat drove his sleek machine

Over the Jersey state line

Barefoot girl sitting on the hood of a Dodge

Drinking warm beer in the soft summer rain

The Rat pulls into town, rolls up his pants

Together they take a stab at romance

And disappear down Flamingo Lane

Well, the Maximum Lawmen run down Flamingo

Chasing the Rat and the barefoot girl

And the kids 'round there live just like shadows

Always quiet, holding hands

From the churches to the jails

Tonight all is silence in the world

As we take our stand

Down in Jungleland

The midnight gang's assembled

And picked a rendezvous for the night

They'll meet 'neath that giant Exxon sign

That brings this fair city light

Man, there's an opera out on the Turnpike

There's a ballet being fought out in the alley

Until the local cops, Cherry-Tops, rips this holy night

The street's alive as secret debts are paid

Contacts made, they flash unseen

Kids flash guitars just like switchblades

Hustling for the record machine

The hungry and the hunted

Explode into rock 'n' roll bands

That face off against each other out in the street

Down in Jungleland

In the parking lot the visionaries dress in the latest rage

Inside the backstreet girls are dancing to the records that the DJ plays

Lonely-hearted lovers struggle in dark corners

Desperate as the night moves on

Just one look and a whisper, and they're gone

Beneath the city ("city" is an obvious ref to NYC), two hearts beat

Soul engines running through a night so tender

In a bedroom locked in whispers

Of soft refusal and then surrender

In the tunnels uptown, the Rat's own dream guns him down

As shots echo down them hallways in the night

No one watches when the ambulance pulls away

Or as the girl shuts out the bedroom light

Outside the street's on fire in a real death waltz

Between what's flesh and what's fantasy

And the poets down here don't write nothing at all

They just stand back and let it all be

And in the quick of a knife, they reach for their moment

And try to make an honest stand

But they wind up wounded, not even dead

Tonight in Jungleland

But theres not a lot I can do

Could we have kippers for breakfast

Mummy dear, mummy dear

Do you want my autograph

Im a loser, what a joker

Im playing my jokes upon you

While theres nothing better to do

Dont you look at my girlfriend

R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A.

John Cougar Mellencamp

They come from the cities

And they come from the smaller towns

Beat up cars with guitars and drummers

Goin crack boom bam

Chorus

R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.

R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.

R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A., Yeah, Yeah!

Rockin' in the U.S.A.

Said goodbye to their families

Said goodbye to their friends

With pipe dreams in their heads

And very little money in their hands

Some are black and some are white

Ain't to proud to sleep on the floor tonight

With the blind faith of Jesus you know that they just might, be

Rockin' in the U.S.A.

Hey!

Voices from nowhere

And voices from the larger towns

Filled our head full of dreams

Turned the world upside down

There was Frankie Lyman-Bobby Fuller-Mitch Ryder

(They were Rockin')

Jackie Wilson-Shangra-las-Young Rascals

(They were Rockin')

Spotlight on Martha Reeves

Let's don't forget James Brown

Rockin' in the U.S.A.
