Recently there has been a rash of people who have not filed for the CR1/IR1 visa via DCF asking questions in the DCF forum. It's not a big deal, but it does clutter up the DCF forum, and can be confusing to those DCF folk who are just starting out in the process and start worrying about things that don't apply (like the NVC, and paying a fee for the I-864, for example). We also can't help people with US-based USCIS and NVC questions very well through lack of experience.

I just have a little, ####### retentive request for those who are thinking about posting in the DCF forum and haven't posted here before -- ask yourself first: Am I filing through a US service center? Or am I filing through a consulate abroad? If you are filing through a US service center, you are MUCH better off asking in another forum, like K3 or IR1/CR1 (hell, even K1 peeps get in here from time to time). If you're filing through a consulate: Hiya, welcome, ask away!

Of course, general questions about DCF (like "Am I eligible?" and "How do I do this?") are absolutely fine. We were all noobs once! But if you've started the process already and you aren't going through the consulate, this place is probably not going to give you the right answers. Sorry if this comes off all bossyboots, but I'm just having one of those days. :)

sister elmcitymaven is in the right.

Could we have a sticky with eligibility for DCF? That would help as well.

That would be a good idea. Or a sticky that says any exceptions to the 6 month residency rule? We all know that 99.9% of countries require that you have a 6 month residency, but are their any exceptions? I know in the DCF instruction area place (for the lack of a better name) states that *most* countries require a 6 months residency. Are there any that don't? If so, could we list them and therefore say "if your country is not listed here you HAVE TO HAVE AT LEAST A 6 MONTHS RESIDENCY" or something! Just ideas!

I don't see why we couldn't start a wiki article on this, put the link in this thread and then ask the thread be pinned. We only have three pinned threads in this forum, and I believe the maximum is five. Anyone want to volunteer to start the DCF 6 month rule wiki? I only suggest that way because we can keep the info up to date in there without people having to trawl through a whole slew of posts.
