We have one ac in the bedroom and I ran it all day to sleep. :( The consumption tariffs here are bad. Anything over 100 units doubles the price and over 200 units triples the price and so forth so we're trying to watch it. I have the ceiling fan going which just turns the hot air around. Taking a cold shower and laying under the cieling fan seems to help.

How hot is it there?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It seems like there is a lot of negatives to Egypt compaired to other ME countries. Saudi is awesome as far as people making sure they have a/c. In all honesty if a not so rich person would get a flat, they would make sure they got a/c's for each room before they bought furniture. Lebanon on the other hand..ugh. The electric is sooooo unstable there and the power goes out at least 5-6 times a day and the generators arent enough to run the a/c. I was miserable in Lebanon in the summer heat. Thats another reason we decided to stay in Saudi in the summer---because we have our a/c's in each room---and to take our Lebanon vacation in the winter, when its cooler.

We pay on average for the summer months 43 dollars in electric. in the winter its much less only about 6-7 dollars a mth.

and you have cold water???? my goodness, when we turn the tap on its soooooo hot. i cant take my shower until after 7-8pm and even then its still pretty darn hot.

Just watch it because although I was behind someone sick on the way back from Italy I think that taking the cold baths and sitting in front of the fan may have contributed to the severity of my pneumonia when I got home. I'm sorry it's so uncomfortable.

We had cold water in Alexandria but I didn't dare drink anymore of it after I got sick, though it felt good to get in a cold tub. It felt like there was steam coming off of my body when I got in!

Seriously I would just take that high electric bill and suffer in other areas. I try to save money in most places but there are things that I just refuse to skimp on like:

heat in the winter

a/c in the summer

real Kleenex with softener

Bounty (it really *is* the quicker picker-upper)

Tide

GOOD olives from an olive bar (like the lemon/garlic ones from Whole Foods)

you get the point. I would really put my foot down on this one. It will improve your mood immensely. My husband learned that the hard way last summer!!! Air at 68 degrees throughout the house and he's got himself a happy habibti

jess ya Egypt doesn't have oil like saudi arabia does but it's better in the electricity department then what lebanon sounds like. I don't know why screens on the windows aren't standard here to keep out the mosquitos. Gah!

Nagi it's in the 90's.

Bridget and Jess the water is more like luke warm to semi cool. Our water does something weird though in this apartment. When you turn on the cold water even if it's only the cold water tap sometimes hot water comes out for a few seconds. Go figure. Nothing like warm water on the toilet azz shower. I call it that because I don't know the name for the little thing that washes your back side. The first time I was using a toilet I was sitting on it at my sister in laws house with them in the next room for about 30 minutes trying to figure out how to wash with no TP and no hose with a spray that I am used to seeing. My Husband had to show me there was a little tab that you turn by the toilet and the spout was in the toilet. It took me awhile and several trips to learn how to control the pressure and wash. I still don't know if I have it right.

OOO How i love my tp and if i have to use it the automatic sprayer on the wall hose.

I guess there is a lot i complain about over here, but also a lot that i should be thankful for i guess.

Its not america--but at least we have our own home now----after living with my sister in law, that wasnt a very good time LOL for almost 2yrs. Thank God for everything.

Im also very thankful that George makes it possible for me to return to NY as often as he does. He has become very accomodating with that. Still never easy to have my heart and soul in half all the time everywhere.

Woah  It's light out and when I looked at the time it was just after 6 am here. I swear I just woke up after 11 pm a little bit ago and it feels like a few hours past but not this much. Where does the time go?
