Carry-on Pets to USA

I was thinking about my dog Toby.

Is it ok for me to bring him to USA? I know i need to comply the requirements of the immigration but can someone give me a website on what documents should I bring.

I am not sure about this but I just want to know...

Depends on the airline, type of pet, and any quarantine rules in effect (the airline will tell you).

You will have to pay for room/board if the pet is to be quarantined.

A friend of mine brought a dog (yorkie) back from the UK and the dog was quarantined for 30 days. They ended up charging him $40 a day for boarding.

Depending on how big or small he is and what the airline requirements are, chances are he'll go in the cargo hold and not in the main cabin. I suggest you check with the airline you are flying with and also read up on the CDC requirements here: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/animal/index.htm

If you follow everything correctly you shouldn't have to quarantine him upon arrival in the US

But first and foremost, talk with your family to see if they are willing to accept a pet into their home. You say your husband is allergic.. but is he actually allergic to Toby? Some people are allergic to certain breeds but not to others. Also, your FIL doesn't want a pet so I assume you are moving into live with them. Speak to them about it because it is their home. Does their home have a yard and is there space for him? If these things don't add up then yes, the best option would be to rehome him before you leave. It is a tough decision to make but remember you are doing what's best for him

I too, have to say goodbye to my dog, so I understand how you feel.

As I was looking into it however, (and there are lots of sites that tell you) I did read that depending on when the animal has had the proper immunizations, then they actually don't need to be quarantined! Believe it or not. However, again, depending on when one was travelling, a lot of airlines won't fly pets in the summer because if it's too hot then it's unhealthy. One of the factors that led me too my decision in not taking her. The couple of airline that would fly pets in the summer, (because they keep the cargo hold, and vans cool) are very expensive for a ticket, plus paying for her to travel. It may be different though for a smaller dog that can fit under the seat in the cabin.

I was wondering the exact same thing. We have a 2-month old Yorkie. We're doing all the vaccinations and health checks soon. But the only thing is were worried about the quarantine rules. She is too young to have the rabies vaccine so she will have to be quarantined. So can she be kept in our city or does she have to stay in the POE? From Korea to the US she is small enough to be kept under the seat. I just read about the hot weather thing so another thing to worry about.

As others have said depending on Toby's size/weight and the airline you use, he MIGHT be able to fly in the cabin in a kennel/carrier small enough to fit under the seat in front of you. Each airline should have on their website their pet policy. We are bringing our cat (under 10 pounds) from europe to the USA on Monday. We've gotten him the proper paperwork (a health certificate from the vet saying he's in good health) and will have to pay about $200 but its so worth it! If not some others have suggested there is also cargo if Toby isnt small enough for the cabin.They put the animal(s) in a pressurized and temperature controlled area under the plane for safe travels. I think if you search for a 'sky kennel' you should be able to find a list of available sizes and prices. Leaving a family member is never easy and animals are just as much a family member as any other! Hope this helps!

i saw in northwest airline policy, 8 weeks old below are not allowed....

We wil be living at my FIL's house and have to respect him for not wanting a dog huhu...

i will just talk to Toby in Skype everyday hahaha

I know how you feel... i'm in the same situation but my dog is 8 years old... she's old, a little fat and anxious and i'm afraid of her health... My family will take care of her and i know she'll be fine... But is hard

i read that if the animal is adult and has all vaccination and the doctor says that it's in good health they do not put in quarentine the pet...

But you must read a lot to be well informed....
