Quick I 864 question

Hi everyone,

I just have a quick question regarding the I864.

My wifes mother is going to be my joint sponsor, however her and her husband file there taxes jointly.

Does this mean that they both have to complete the I 864.

However Unfortunately on question 24, Do we need to tick box D or box E. I assume that we need to tick box d however this says that we then need to fill in form I 864A . Does my wifes step dad just need to fill this form in as it is my Wifes mother who is the joint sponsor.

Any help would be great as we are very confused.

No that is incorrect. In fact if mom and dad were both sponsoring they would have to file the I-864 and I864A.

My Father was initially going to co-sponsor my husband (USCIS decided at our interview that his affidavit was not required - mine was sufficient). I completed the form for Dad and listed only his income and he was the only one who signed it. I included his W2's with his tax return (as required) and that helps to clarify the figures.

This has been discussed here frequently before and both parents do not need to sponsor - unless of course both of their incomes is required to meet the pov guidelines.
