I'm sure I could look at past posts and do lots of research, I just don't have a lot of time with my schedule. I filed I-130 on April 8, 2009. I got a NOA letter about a month later. Was expecting another (NOA-2?) letter a couple of weeks later. I called NCIS and she did not know what an NOA-2 was. She just said look online at the typical wait for approval of this type Visa at the California Service Center. Six months. I already knew that. Does that mean I can expect my wife to be here at the beginning of October? Or, does that just mean our petition is approved in October and only the beginning of another process? I was expecting a packet of information telling me what kind of documents I should be getting ready. I have not received anything and they have nothing to say, just that they will contact me if they need anything.

Hmmmm. Do I really just sit here and wait for months on end not doing anything or get anything ready for the interview?

I am sure you can do a little research also. This should be a rather important event in your life, was for me, but I am silly like that and not busy at all so it was no problem for me.

But let me give you a few clues. There is no such thing as an "NOA2" it is a VisaJourney slang term for the second Notice of Action (I-797) which normally is a petition approval, so before you waste any more of your time calling USCIS (which IS a waste of your time) you should at least understand correct terms. Seems like you expected to drop some paers in the mail and have someone deliver your bride to the door. My guess is you will get some RFEs as it doesn't seem possible you could have done it properly with no research.

Next clue, yes, the NOA2 ends the first phase and starts the second phase which can take as long or longer. During this second phase your fiancee will get a packet of instructions, YOU will not. SO best to inform her or maybe she can find time to inform herself since you are busy.

Sounds like you are too busy, with your schedule, to just sit there and wait. That's good I busied myself also and it made the months go by faster, but like I said, if you find some downtime, maybe you will go to this, or the consulate, website and download the forms for the interview and get those prepared..if you have time.

So, let me be direct. You entered into a many months long process which requires you (or someone you pay to do it if you don't have time) to read, study, prepare, copy, document and collate for the next several months, on demand of the USCIS and consulate. You will shell out lots of money, makes lots of copies, pay lots of postage. The USCIS will not keep you updated, will not communicate. YOU need to implement everything, no one else will do any of this for you, nothing is automatic. You need to initiate each pahse and finish each phase, no one in the government cares if your fiancee gets a visa or not. It is up to you. You can learn, you can do it and put up with it, or call your fiancee and back out because you haven't the time for her...you are busy with your schedule.

We will be glad to answer our questions and the people at this site have made up some wonderful, complete, easy to read guides that explain every step in detail, but YOU need to read them

Just change fiancee to wife and all the above is correct. If you're too busy to learn the process, then hire somebody to help you.

Wow, is there a chill in this room? A lot of people jumping to conclusions here. I HAVE been through the process before, and done so well. My first fiance was killed during the immigration period before she got here. My second fiance was called back to the province by her family that just could not seem to do with the absence of their family matriarch. For both women I did all the research and visa prep myself without a hitch. No lawyers and no calls for more information. Approved on both counts. This time I decided to go the spousal route and got married beforehand. I have just been struggling with the new terms being a spousal visa and not fiance visa process. Especially when NCIS told me not to expect an NOA 2 as they never heard of it. It has been about two months since I got the NOA letter. Was expecting a second.

If noone cares to reply with any input except accusations and prejudgmenets maybe you should not be posting. Thanks to the few of you that did give me some input that was positive. I was also expecting my package of instructions but, I guess it will come later. I want to get on the forms prep.
