Thank you so much for this! This is one of the reasons me and my husband love the film "Love Actually" it starts with Terminal 4 in Heathrow, and how people wait for their loved ones and all that... Me and hubby met in Heathrow, Terminal 4... Your story reminded me of ours. I was coming out with huge suitcases on my trolley, could hardly push it by myself... And at the end of the hallway, there he was... Looking worried (it took me nearly an hour to get out) and when he turn his head to look towards the hallway and saw me coming, I could see the happiness in his eyes and his grin... He went round the barrier and hugged me so hard I thought I would not be able to breath anymore... At the same time I felt so loved and happy.... He kissed me in the head and said "Thank God you're here" .... It always fills my eyes in tears when I remember this, and that's why every now and again we'll watch the film, to remind us of how much we love each other...
:crying: Cry everytime I watch that film, what a great movie. I did make the mistake of watching it alone once, never again!

The first time I met Wes face to face was at Pittsburgh Airport. There was another girl waiting to meet her sweetie - she had flowers and balloons.

Now, if you've not been to Pittsburgh allow me to explain - there are TWO corridors down which passengers exit. Kinda confusing.

This girl was watching down one of them - apparently she knew her boyfriend would be coming through that one. I watched their reunion and it was very sweet. After they moved on, I guess I was fixated with that passageway and was paying more attention to it than the other.

Wes loves to tell the story about how he watched me for a good minute or two before I FINALLY turned my head and saw him coming down the OPPOSITE exit. Indeed, he was probably no more than 30 feet from me when I turned and saw him, and when I did see him - well I ran straight to his arms!

So...our first face-to-face is also the story of ANOTHER couple's reunion!

I used to work at Gatwick airport for the year before I moved over to the US to be with my now-husband.

It was both a happy, yet sad experience. It was always so sweet and touching to see all these people meeting up with loved ones, whether they be friends, family, people they worked with or girlfriend-boyfriend/fiance-fiancee/spouses.

It's really a pretty magical place to work with all that love. But then of course you have the flip side of departures, where people are annoyed about waiting for their flights or delays. Some tearful goodbyes, it's pretty emotional to see. But probably accute for me, having been through the seperation. The joyous greeting and sad goodbyes. So glad I don't have to do it anymore.

But to those who do, be comforted by the fact that this cycle will end, and it's well worth it.

When my sweetie signed off the ship I didn't get to go to the airport with him, just put him on the shuttle bus. I was crying so much that the port security officer wouldn't let me back on the ship! It's probably a good job that I didn't take him to the airport.

On the flip side when I flew into Maine, having spent over 24 hours traveling to be with him, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry or just collapse in a big heap when I saw him. We didn't know whether we could sustain on land what we'd had on the ship and whilst I was waiting for him to arrive my only thoughts were "OMG what am I doing?", but as soon as I saw him walk into the baggage reclaim I knew I was in the right place. It was the most wonderful feeling.

I hope all of you who are separated are not for much longer; I miss my husband when he is away overnight, and I can't imagine how it must be waiting for months or even years at a time.

Thanks for this story.

I explained in my introuction how there was a lapse of 8 years in my relationship with Mike.

So this time when I went to pick him up at the airport and it was taking so long for him to clear customs I started to get paranoid that I wouldn't recognize him or he me...but then I saw him like 10 miles down the hallway and it was like no time had passed at all. *thumpty thump* went my heart.

I love to watch people in general...at airports, malls, etc. We're all so different, it's wonderful.

Hold on to what is good even if it is a handful of earth.

Hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree which stands by itself.

Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here.

Hold on to life even when it is easier letting go.

Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you.
