Oh, no worries, I'd probably snip too if it was me, I mean, I didn't know some of us didn't have access to the SSN early on and made my comment based on illegal immigration.

I can imagine people wanting to get their DLs and not being able to. I actually don't have one yet. I had an international one that worked fine but it expired a couple of months ago along with my brazilian one so now I have to get off my lazy #### and go get my PR DL.

Except when I do I end up doing other stuff and not going the DMV. I think I have to wait for my GC now, 'cus I have to turn in some documents so they can verify that I am indeed legal here and can apply for a DL. That's how it works here in PR.

That shoud give most of the legal immigrants enough time to get a social. I think that the DMV is good place to start cracking down on illegals. The international DL will give some time before running out of time so to speak. This time period is a good opportunity for the immigrant to gain some experience on the roads. (It took Isa a little time to become accustomed to the larger faster cars, wide roads, stop signs (gotta stop ), others rude behavior, etc. )

This is one of the items to consider in deciding the visa type and how life will be when the S.O. arrives. Takes some planning.

As for your door problem ... know what you mean. My UK co-worker says to me when I visit the UK ...

By immigrants do you mean permanant-residents (GC holders) or are you including temp-visa holders?

(btw, some temp visa holders--specifically on derivative/dependent visas--cannot get an SSN on that status; article doesn't mention whether PA would accept ITIN as substitute)
