Conversely, what definition of terrorism (beyond guerrilla warfare) would you use to label that man a terrorist? I do not agree with the tactic of guerrilla warfare to achieve ideological goals, but as one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter...

Since terrorism implies tactics:

Indiscriminate murder, bombing, etc... are closer to the actual definition, IMO. Hence, if your definition goes into the ideological, then definitely there is room to make a simile to other revolutionary figures.

What kind of guy claims to be a scientist and not seen the original Star Trek series on this subject?

Some rock alien pits the Enterprise crew against evil humans from the past to determine what "good" and "evil" mean. He notices both use violence so aren't they the same? Kirk goes on with his usual speech at the end about saving money booking hotel rooms.

I was actually just talking to my brother (a younger clone of myself) about the South Park episode where 'Evil Parallel Dimension Cartman' was a sweet kid.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Although, having been to Bolivia, and studied its history beyond the simple internet, I can affirm that said nation's multiple government changes contradict your reform concept.

Unless you were in Boliivia in 1966 or 1967, I you've got little credibility as I'm talking about conditions there at the time not now. You have no knowledge of land reform theory or practice. You need to brush up on this part of Bolivian history as it took me a whole 10 seconds to find it. It's an interesting read and if wanted to learn something you'd read it.

"Ernesto "Che" Guevara's unsuccessful attempt to overthrow

Bolivia's government in 1966 and 1967 ranks as a mere anecdote

in the long and continuing history of guerrilla warfare. Barely

lasting eleven months, Guevara's small band of insurgents ach-

ieved few military victories and failed to ignite any semblance

of popular support among Bolivia's citizens. A study of the cam-

paign reveals, instead, inadequate planning, amatuerish execution,

and pathetic results. Despite the reputation of Che Guevara as

"...the chief revolutionary brain in the Cuban revolution..."1

his Bolivia excursion was characterized by crucial tactical errors

and basic violations of guerrilla warfare principles, including

those promoted by Che in his own writings. When compared to the

accomplishments of Fidel Castro, Ho Chi Minh, Poncho Villa, and

other revolutionary leaders, Che's Bolivian insurgency pales to

the point of relative insignificance. . ."

"Bolivia's historical development had molded its social,

economical, and political makeup into a distinct entity. Bolivia,

in 1966, shared little in common with Cuba's situation ten years

earlier. Unlike Batista, Barrientos enjoyed general popular

support anong the people. Although the country's upper class

commanded a disproportionate share of the power and wealth, steps

had been taken to redistribute land and generally improve the

plight of the poor. Cubans, under the Batista regime, existed in

a state of regression while the people of Bolivia perceived pro-

gressive reform and social improvement. Most significantly, Boli-

vians generally believed that their "revolution" had occurred in

1952."

Which would likely be quite different if our elected leaders would have lifted a draconian embargo that only serves to remind Cubans that they have an 'enemy'. Although the island Cubans I've met assure me they do not feel antagonistic towards us or even Washington. Perhaps my observations are a fluke. Perhaps, not.

That's a lame excuse as most nations trade with Cuba so the Uncle Sam as boogyman line has been parroted from Castro. If the Cuban government wanted to liberalize it's economic, recognize human rights and allow a more democratic form of government, it could do it quite easily. Most Americans don't hate Cubans but they don't like the same government in power for 50 years.

Once the Castros drop dead there's a good chance things will change rapidly.

Credibility, schemidibility. This is VJ.

Somewhat OTT, but on a first hand basis, my friend's father was an officer in Bolivia's Army and participated in the Samaipata operations against those guerrilla fighters. I got to see pictures of him that were event/place-appropriate, and a first-hand account of whom he thinks ordered the murder in captivity.

However, notice I am not disputing your research. In fact, there is nothing new to add.

As for the embargo, I suggest you take a look at the time course of Cuba's trading partners over the life of the ongoing lameness. You may realize that it was basically until the mid to late 1990s that most of the current trading partners that Cuba currently has started to trickle to reality. And I think its a good place to remind you that many foreign nations would not trade with Cuba due to severe penalties levied on them by the USA for doing so.

Now I do agree with what Cuba needs to do now. The Cuban dictatorship needs to go and always has. The people of Cuba, not Washington, however, have the right to dictate their own political direction, so lets keep that in mind when we remind ourselves why it is that on so many occasions, we see certain populism against our brand of economic 'imperialism.'

I am sure that this ridiculous and outlived embargo would be lifted if the Cuban government did what we want them to do, but not everyone needs to do what they are told to do by other nations, or even do what is in the best economical interests of others while those wanting to impose their values unto others do so with a very heavy hand, hence that antagonism generated.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

She does have a Twitter account...

How appropriate for a twit!!!

Absolutely. She is apparently quite the socialite in the US.

If her notion of being revolucionaria is chillin with the In Crowd... then it is no wonder she's landed with such an interesting crowd like PETA.

Hmmm, he was ruthless and he pillaged villages while forcing people to join his "revolution". You might want to make a play on words here, like what exactly is a terrorist and have fun with that but what America did get right is that we dont see him as a hero as many delusional people do.

Working in California I have seen this on more than one occasion, mexicans and college kids wearing a Che shirt. Working where I did I knew that one of the Mexicans I addressed wasn't even a legal citizen. I thought how despicable, kind of like spitting on America if you ask me. I addressed him and he acted like he didnt even know who Che was, I have my doubts.

he rightly fought against imperialist American regimes set by force instead of the will of the people... Batista in Cuba? he got in power by a coup sponsored by the CIA.. Bolivia when he got killed? he was fighting against another president sponsored by the CIA... he was ruthless in his discipline, but he was fair... yes, he killed traitors and deserters.. not people who didn't wanna join... it was times of war and revolution.. and he was one of the first ones who saw the ruthless attempt of USA to control the south cone with it's banana republic tactics..

he didn't fight for socialism.. he fought for people getting what is right, he fought so people could see, that yea, becoming rich is not a biggie, but that there is a cost, a high cost, suffering, that the nice american dream doesn't tell you about... terrorist.. not true.. he was, and still is a hero of the poor masses.. and while there's the abuse that comes with capitalism and globalization, I'm glad there's people that wear a CHe shirt, and know about his revolution..

Why did they think that by killing him, he would cease to exist as a fighter? ... Today he is in every place, wherever there is a just cause to defend.
