Waleed's always saying for me never to tell him no and that I have to learn to trick him like egyptian women. I said that is so much work and I'd rather be frank and open and honest with my communication. ha ha that doesn't always go over very well.

So don't tell him no. Instead, whip out your Arabic lesson of the day: Fil mish-mish.

Fil is in. Mish-mish is apricot. Apricots are only in season for a couple of weeks in Egypt.

So, what you've just learned is, pretty much, IN YOUR DREAMS.

You should have seen my husband's face when I dropped the FIL MISH-MISH bomb. It was funny as you-know-what.

Tell Waleed I taught you that one because I'm pretty sure he'll ask.

I tired Fil mish mish except I said Mish fill fill. :P He asked if that was arabic and I said in your dreams and then he went into the apricot explination and said this was so funny and to say fil mish mish. Now he asks me to say it and he laughs so hard. Smack down II consist of going to the kitchen together except I left the room leaving him in charge to go sit in the living room like he does so he knows how it feels. He had a big problem with it! He said he felt like the wife and the husband and we had a good talk about it and some laughs.

my husband had a huge laugh when i started answering him with "meshy" (okay) and "laa" (no) when he would talk to me. I thought he would fall over when he asked me if i was sure of something, and i said "maya maya" (100%). it's fun :)

When I try to speak Arabic they all correct me so my accent must be bad and it makes me not want to speak it. What does maya maya mean?

My husband corrects me for things like Quranic pronunciation, but I think with Arabic he's just happy that I'm trying. It is a little overwhelming when you are corrected, it makes me embarassed to try to speak it, too. Maya Maya (with an A like in Amy, May-uh, May-uh) means something like Completely, 100%. But Miya Miya (with an I like Ice cream) means water...

May-ya mean the number 100....so you are saying it correctly. Mayya mayya...it helps to add "habibee" or "ya albi" (my heart) to the end of that :P

I am always being corrected, so it has really hindered me wanting to learn. I seem to say it right in my head 100000 times but it comes out wrong.
