bilingual wedding invitations

we are still planning our religious ceremony for this september.

Does anyone have any good ideas or actual designs of bilingual invitations? Although the majority of our guests speak English, I think it would be good to include both languages (English/Spanish)...however, I'm not sure how to do that and make it look pretty too...

I would like to see examples of things that have worked!

I don't have any examples, but as someone who has endured two weddings (the husband is merely an appendage) and wished to high heaven for some input into important mechanics, here are some hints:

First, in your instance, it would seem fine to put both languages in one invitation; this may require "tight" lines of text (vertically) so that everything will fit. If it will not increase your costs to print most of the order of invitations solely in English and a few solely in Spanish, consider doing that, if it fits your audiences.

General suggestions:

1. Make certain NOT to pick a stupid fancy script for the invitation (this goes DOUBLE for the RSVP envelope, which the Post Office HAS to read). Use a regular font that leaves the reader no doubt as to the information being presented, and that won't hurt people's eyes or brains to try to decipher.

2. For cost's sake, be sure that your initial mailing is not so heavy that it requires extra postage... and that the RSVP envelope is not too freaking SMALL (the Postal Service has minimum sizes). If you're mailing some invitations internationally, remember that U.S. return postage on the RSVP envelope will be useless.*

* Frankly, I'd either e-mail the invitations to international attendees, or -- if they're all in the same city -- enclose the appropriate number of sealed, individually addressed invitations in one DHL envelope, and send the DHL to one relative who can then distribute the invitations locally, by hand.

3. Somewhere within the invitation, state clearly whether the bride will take the husband's surname or keep her own, and include the complete mailing-address of where the happy couple can be reached afterwards.

The above goes somewhat beyond the original request, but I had to unload on somebody, si man.

On the lighter side, I would applaud anyone who included such quotes as "The most dangerous food is Wedding Cake," "Socrates died from an overdose of wedlock," or "Why do most husbands die first? They WANT to!" within their mailing. Si, man?

Wow I like these invites. We did not do invites because out wedding was planned in a matter of weeks but I will email you a copy of our bilingual ceremony. If we get our act together we are going to send out announcements. The bilingual idea is great. Your website is wonderful too!
