I-864 and Packet 3 Question

I'm sorry this is probably a million-time repeat of the same question, but I did a search and the answers that were given may or may not apply to DCF. So... I thought I'd ask you fine people.

Does the I-864 my husband (the USC) is completing for me need to be notarized? He is coming to the interview with me if that makes any difference (the reason I mention is that it says it can be notarized by an immigration officer.)

Also, I've been through the several forms that are contained within the packet 3, and once we have Chris's tax paperwork and my police certificates it looks like we have everything sorted. I don't know what I was expecting, but am I missing something important? It all seems a bit..straightforward?

Thanks as ever for your help :)

Candace,

I hope this helps. If you use the new I-864, it does NOT need to be notarized.

Good Luck!

Yeah, I think I read somewhere that the new I864 doen't need to be notarised. Also once you have all your paperwork done, make sure you send your DS230 part 1 and your Notification of Readiness and that's it... All you need to do then is sit down and wait for your packet 4 which will contain info about the Medical (in case you haven't done it by then) and your interview date!

good luck!

i am also doing a DCF, through Algeria, and i JUST emailed the embassy in Algiers to ask them about the new I-864 requirements... they told me that the I-864 still had to be notarized, but i only needed one year of tax returns. so it might vary from embassy to embassy in different countries... i would email the embassy that you will be filing at to know for sure. also, i'm pretty sure that you can notarize the documents at the embassy itself... but i would check on that too :)

Candace, as noted, the I-864 now does not need to be notarized, but since your USC will be at the interview and IF they request/require it, he will be able to do so at the interview.

Sorry we can't make it more complicated for you. :)
