Now I find this strange. I was checking my set of copies of the I-129F and I found that I made the money order to USCIS instead of the US Dept of Homeland Security. Yet I have my NOA1 and my case #. Of course the amount ($$$) is correct.

I wonder if it is because I do not live in the continental US although there is an office of the Dept of Homeland Security 15 minutes from home. Now I really feel worried.

I hope is nothing serious.

PEACE my friends...............

If you have your NOA, your probably safe. They usually send it back if they have an issue with the check. Was you check cashed? (in your bank?).

It seems that it really depends on who opens the package, what they find acceptable or not.

Like mention aboved, someone wrote "and zero cents" and it was rejected, they wanted "00/100" --- goofy.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Yes....it seems it depends on who opens the package and what they find acceptable or not. With a portion of the procedure being subjective anything is possible.

PEACE................and for me, back to work. hehehe

Have a nice day all of you.

I suppose that an error on whom the petitioner makes the check or money order would show at the beggining. There would be no NOA 1 until that error is fixed. Am I right?

PEACE my friends.........

Correct - no money, no honey... (as Puskbrk would say).

Actually, I didn't originate that phrase here but I don't remember who did. Two problems with the money order, the extra $.59 and USCIS instead of Dept. of Homeland Security.

I would encourage the OP to take this opportunity to go over their filing again with a fine tooth comb. This error is an indication of not having read instructions carefully. So, there's no telling what other little gems were overlooked.

Like mention aboved, someone wrote "and zero cents" and it was rejected, they wanted "00/100" --- goofy.

I took a personal business class in high school, and we were instructed to always write out the cents as a fraction. The reasoning was that the line where you spell out the amount ends with the word "dollars" printed on the check. Writing "four hundred fifty five and zero cents dollars" would not make any sense, whereas "four hundred fifty five and 00/100 dollars" would. In fact, my personal business teacher spent an entire day explaining what constituted a valid and an invalid bank draft, and told us some crazy story about someone who had apparently written a valid bank draft on somebody's stomach, which the bank was obligated to honor but were left in a quandary about how to cancel it. :P

This thread made me check my copies again paper by paper. And so far (God help us) the mistake in my money order was the only error. I double checked again with Western Union and the money order was cashed on April 22.

But I'm human. If something else comes out in the next month, of course is my fault. At least I can say that we check all the documents before I sent them several times and following the guides. My very last step (the payment) was were I slipped.

I hope there is no more errors.

PEACE.............

That is the way I was taught too.

But some people didn't do it that way, and it was accepted... Wish they would stay consistent.

good thing they do not allow cash/coins - can you imagine the issues with that :)

Too bad this isn't allowed, I am sure that some people (L) USCIS so much that they would just LOVE to pay in pennies...I'm giggling over the idea of a petition needing to be delivered with a fork lift.

$455.00 in pennies? The visualisation of that has gone and passed your giggles onto me...

Here, have a million pennies...we need about 45,500, so a little less than half that block.

half the block would be 500,000 pennies, a little less than 1/10 would be 45,500. It actually doesn't look as significant when you put it in pennies.

Oops. A zero went somewhere and I made a right plonker of myself in a feat of horrendous mathematics...

Even a tiny block would weigh a fair bit, mind you.

I submitted a money order in the amount of 455.00 to the USCIS and it was signed

If it was in fact made out to USCIS, that is the error. As previously noted it must be made out to "U.S. Department of Homeland Security"

Mine was addressed to USCIS and was cleared within 2 days
