Not much choice on this one for me.... I work 35 miles away, there's no public transportation in rural Indiana, and I can't afford the 3 hours each way to ride my bike to work. So, car (truck, actually) it is.

It depends really. I prefer myself motorcycle , it's faster and saves gas money, but when it's raining car is better.

We live in sprawling Houston where cars dominate. However, I'm not so lazy that I use the car 100% of the time. Often I walk or ride a bicycle to run errands to places close to the house. We rarely use public transportation, but sometimes it is practical when traveling to the central downtown district. There is a "park and ride" near our house to take the train into the central downtown district, but I have to drive to the train station.

Unfortunately, I live in metro Baltimore (near Pikesville) and work in Annapolis Junction--a distance of 40 km each way; MTA's light rail doesn't extend that far, and using MARC is actually pricier.

I looked at an apartment in Jessup (only 6 km from work) yesterday.

Unfortunately, in much of the US public transport can be considered as poor-to-nonexistant.
