I have been at the clinching championship game for the Lakers before and really don't understand the riot mentality after sports events. Now, I've been to a few Glasgow Derby matches in the past and that feels more like a riot atmosphere. :X

Alien, it matters not what the particular 'cause' is, the mentality is identical. You hypothesised that perhaps American's don't indulge in mob violence because of the prevalence of firearms. I pointed out that in fact American's do indulge in mob violence so any conclusion drawn therefrom is moot. Soccer fans when they riot are an angry, dangerous mob and in fact some of them are indeed racists. Time to move on I think.

Oh, and while I am at it, the UK does in fact have a huge percentage of immigrants - all the colonies and what not...

I think what it boils down to is that the people who go in for this kind of thing are not exactly into the sport itself but rather the adrenalin rush from being in huge, noisy and slightly unruly crowds. They get to bond in a tribal way using the 'us' against 'them' mentality.

I think what it boils down to is that the people who go in for this kind of thing are not exactly into the sport itself but rather the adrenalin rush from being in huge, noisy and slightly unruly crowds. They get to bond in a tribal way using the 'us' against 'them' mentality.

The introduction of alcohol and massive egos into the equation doesn't help either.

Seems to me this is a similar level of violence to the displayed by Laker's fans the other day. In fact, the fans indulged in looting too.

Even in the USA there are "families" of Gypsies which are a complete criminal unit.

I made the mistake of giving a few Bucks (actually rubbles) to some begging on the street, next thing I know I had three pulling on my arm wanting more and they would not take no for an answer.

After five minutes of it, I actually got mad about it and would have snatched the money back if I could have.

Ireland has a bit more diversity than just Gypsies, I'm bettiin if the story was more complete we would see something more than them being from another country sparked this.

Have you been to Ireland, either the Republic, or the Northern 6 counties? It has calmed down in the past 15 years, but it is still a powderkeg.

Whether they were criminals or not is beside the point. That is a matter for law enforcement to deal with, not vigilante mobs.

Sorry you were offended by my post (Not). I am offended by what you wrote. Whether I am or not is not really the issue however. It is not relevant to whether you wrote an overtly racist thing, and in so doing are beyond the norm of accepted behavior here.

I don't intend to degrade, intimidate, nor incite violence etc. That's very good to hear. Seriously, I am relieved to know that. If so, are you prepared to retract your previous remarks? I can't speak for others, but if you issue a retraction I am willing to move past and not make any further issue out of this. Anyone is capable of misspeaking at times, and you deserve the courtesy to retract.
