Police: 17-Year-Old Confessed To Beating Child.

A 17-year-old male has been charged in connection with the beating death of an infant, police said.

According to Sheriff Newell Normand, officers were dispatched to Apartment B at 1656 Gary Court near Gretna on Saturday to respond to a call of an infant who was unresponsive.

Responding officers found the lifeless body of 8-month-old Da-Von Lonzo. The boy was transported to Ochsner Westbank and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The death was classified as a homicide after an autopsy was conducted Saturday afternoon by the coroner's office. The doctor who conducted the autopsy noted multiple fractures throughout the child's body consistent with a beating. The toddler also had tears in his #######.

Homicide detectives interviewed a male teen claiming to be the boyfriend of the infant's mother. The teen was identified by police as Arnold Ross, 17, of Terrytown.

Detectives said Ross initially said he was babysitting when the child fell down the stairs and stopped breathing.

Police later learned that a neighbor heard loud noises coming from the apartment. Investigators later noticed inconsistencies in Ross's interview.

Police said Ross later admitted that the boy had begun to cry and, when the crying continued, Ross said he beat the child repeatedly.

Ross also told police that the child had begun to defecate on himself, and that Ross had put his fingers inside the infant's rectum in an attempt to clean up the child.

Ross was booked on one count of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated rape.

According to a police report, Ross has a criminal history that includes arrests for possession of crack cocaine, possession of marijuana, obscenity, battery on a correctional officer, three counts of battery on a school teacher, three counts of theft, illegal carrying of a weapon and assault.
