Hmm maybe I should start my own business cleaning houses. Seems like a lot of people would hire me.

I really don't mind cleaning at all.

I don't mind cleaning - my own mess, in my own home. I don't know if I could stand cleaning someone elses toilet, bathtub, etc. When it's MY dirt and germs, I'm OK but someone elses, don't think I could do it!

It would be interesting to know how much money could be made cleaning houses!

That's the crux of the situation though! I would LOVE a housekeeper, for one day a week at least. I hate vacuuming and dusting. But would I ever get one? No. No because I don't work outside the home, so cooking and cleaning is my contribution to the household. Gene works full time and does all the outside work. Well, except for the gardening which we both do unless it's very hot and then I don't venture outside at all. He actually does the vacuuming for me at least twice a month as well, so I shouldn't be complaining. We could afford it I'm sure, but the money isn't the issue...it's the...well, it's the thought! If I was working full time I think I might suggest it, but truly, I've never known anyone that has someone come in. No one in my family, my circle of friends, or Gene's family has ever had anyone come in as well. Oh...I just thought of something actually...my parents do have someone right now that comes in once a week and vacuums and dusts. As well, in the spring and fall, this person comes in and does windows and washes their draperies and washes baseboards and walls. But, my parents are almost 90, still living on their own, and we encouraged them to do it. Rather than have them fall! I guess it's just one of those things for me anyway, that I like to dream about, but in reality, I'd never do.

You should try it, at least have someone do it once, just for fun!

What's Gene's email address, sounds like a good present for a special occasion :hehe:

I know my inlaws paid theirs 100.00 per week for one days work.

She wasn't even good really and would spend maybe 3-4 hours doing it. She'd do a house in the morning and then one in the afternoon.

So she'd rake in about 1000.00 a week if she did two houses a day.

Only problem is, not all your clients are clean and some are SUPER dirty.

When I moved in with them they got their cleaning lady to stop coming every week and to come every other week because they assumed I would clean one of those weeks. Yea... you know I wouldn't mind cleaning if everyone pitched in. But to expect it of me? I don't think so. I thought that was extremely ignorant of them to expect that.

Then I heard his mom complaining to my husband about it saying that I should at least clean once in a while. I did, but when you clean and everyone comes in with their shoes on and throws everything all over, it kind of gets old and you don't feel like doing it.

Also my BIL laid around all day playing video games.... he could have done some cleaning too.

My mum is a housecleaner. well she's semi-retired now, but she charges $12 an hour I think and she's super fast, so she can do most homes in 3-4 hrs. My mum loves the job, she works for herself, makes enough to supplement her pension and only works in homes where the people are kind and not crazy messy.. she has had horror stories, and has dumped those clients, and really ends up being a part of the family.. she has cleaned for 2 single guys, some families, one lady is a lawyers wife and my mother is her "motivation" as the lady cleans right along with mum when she comes over, so they get it done in 1/2 the time, and mostly just people who are too busy to do the serious cleaning. she doesn't do laundry, but she does move furniture and is crazy good at getting the house in tip top shape...

I would happily pay someone $12 an hour to clean my house.

Sprailenes, I can't even reply to what your MIL did.

i'm sure my mum would happily come to FL to clean it

well that's the ticket.. mum keeps her prices low because she doesn't work for anyone.. she just does it to get out of the house and make a little money on the side.

Definitely a housekeeper. I love gardening and cooking, and there is generally quite a mess after I prepare a large meal for friends, so I could do without that cleaning!!! And since I am by myself, I pretty much do a daily walk to the grocery store for the items I need for my next few meals. This gives me a chance to get a bit of exercise, walk the dog and decompress from they day all in one!!
