I'm in the process of renewing an AVG antivirus/Internet security license. It seems to be a good product (if a little clunky), but the ordering interface is dismal.

Anyhoo, at the checkout, there is an option (checked by default! cheeky bastids!), Extended Download: "Extend the download option for 12 months." This is $6.99. I have no idea what this is. I'm buying licenses for three computers, so I figure that I'll be downloading the latest version for all three computers. What is this extended option? What does it allow you to do that you couldn't do otherwise? I'm feeling like a doofus, and an Internet search hasn't turned up much on the subject. The only thing I can think of is that it allows you to download the original paid version after the license expires. Or if your computer crashes and you have to reinstall it, it will allow you to download it again? But wouldn't it allow you to do that anyway, as long as it's the same machine?

Help?

Is that for business or personal use? if it's for yourself, you can do fine with the free version, i've been using it for years until last year, I switched to Avast (Avast.com)which is free also but less memory clogged.

Both. I did use the free version for a while. The husband ended up getting a paid version, and I added a license for my machine for something like $15 extra.
