Hello,

I am a U.S citizen and my fiance is a U.K citizen. We have been living in Spain for the past two years. We have just sent off the I-129F to start the K-1 visa process.

I am planning on returning to the U.S two months before my fiance is expected to enter on the K-1, in order to look for work to try to prove that I can support my fiance upon applying for the Affidavit of Support.

Because I haven´t worked in the U.S for 2 years and have no tax returns or proof of employement, I am concerned that I will not satisfy the USCIS. My parents said that they will be our co-sponser, but my mother is the only one that is working and my dad is unemployed. Would my mother wages be sufficient?

Does anyone have know the amount of income the expect to see on the Affidavit of Support from the petitioner and/or the co-sponser in order for it to be approved?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

Emily.

Hello Emily,

You can find out about how much is needed here: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-864P.pdf

For a household of 4 (your mother, father, fiancé and yourself) she would need to earn at least $27,562 a year. This is the bare minimum, so it would be best if she earned significantly more than that.

Some Consulates do not accept co-sponsor's, e.g. Bangkok, so be sure yours does.

All the best on the journey.
