I have/had two cats - I love these damn fur balls.

I supposedly lost the cats in the divorce. Well, until my ex couldn't take them with him to his new place.

Then they were back in my life and have been for the last year.

Now, I'm moving to India and I'm not taking the with me. Between the flight, the apartment life [they are indoor/outdoor], the 100+ degree temps we decided not to move them.

For the last 2 months I've been trying to place them on my own and have had them on waiting lists with rescues in case I don't place them.

One's been adopted by a coworker. Happy as a clam there, other cats to play with and a huge yard to play in...

The other will most likely go into rescue tomorrow night [i'm leaving NJ as of Friday and haven't had luck with getting her placed].

One of the rescues decided to take my initial email and forward it, which has now been forwarded again and again.

This is what I got this morning:

"Dear Catknit,

I think they are meant to stay with you and inspire you to get a new job and stay home; they look so sad about this situation. Even if you have to work at Wal-Mart or Home Depot or waitress.... Or maybe get transferred anywhere else and make them get you a nice apartment. Sorry for your situation, but I think in this time, it is for us to make decisions according to our values, and surely they are part of your values, huh?

I have three cats and two horses.

--Jane"

I hate people.

Not that I've broadcast here, but what I will be doing in India - aside from marrying the SO - is volunteering with NGOs. I've been working for months on getting project work set up [because I can't sit around and stare at the walls for months waiting for our visa issues to be resolved]. I'm truly excited about spending time doing charitable work while there and have looked at my relocation as two fold. Time with soon-to-be Mr Catknit and being able to hopefully do some positive work seem completely vaild reasons that aren't in conflict with anyone's "values".

How irritating. As if you don't feel guilty enough.

That's too bad that you weren't able to place him. Maybe your coworker would consider taking the other too? At least temporarily until you can find other arrangements?

In any case, that email was entirely inappropriate. It wasn't from the actual rescue worker, right? Just a random person the rescue had solicited to take the cat? I would email her and thank her so much for offering to take your kitty since she clearly has superior values. :)

Yes - just a random person that received the email. I am happy that the rescue started an email chain since it gets the word out quick and hopefully to those that would be most receptive.

But, still....I feel HUGELY guilty.

I love my cats dearly and I thought [silly me] I was doing the right thing by trying to find them homes or a rescue instead of just throwing them out on the streets.
