so many good advice. :star: i'm learning to be a woman yay lol

I hear ya...I only started wearing make-up (a little eye shadow + eye circles cover-up stuff) a couple of years ago because my eyelids are permanently pink from seborrhea. :(

I needed help initially, of course. Fortunately, I know plenty of girly girls, including my dear muthuh, who is into make-up. She was pleased that I finally came around to it--at age 33 or somethin'!

It seems that VJ is a treasure trove of glamour gals!

It is hermana, it is  starting with the all mighty Joyce :star: who is a well known lover of pancake foundation and false eyelashes!!!

You know it! With false eyelashes magnified by giant glasses.

oh yeah.... and of course, glittery cream eye shadow on the temples  --

:( That stinks. I have it on my cheeks and it really makes me self-conscious. Thank god for my mineral makeup. Hot showers make it worse for me, so I try to avoid getting hot water on my face as much as possible.

Yeah, seborrhea sucks. For me, it's strongly related to stress. I get it along my hairline from time to time as well. Overall, it's not as bad as it used to be.

Congratulations on your exciting news, by the way. Do you have that maternal glow?

ugh, I had thought I had replied to this thread!!

Nessa,

your skin sounds like my skin! I am also not a make up wearing girl, but I do use a few products.

I trust Neutrogena...They make a "dry touch" sunblock, which, although it doesn't feel PERFECT, but a LOT better than regular sunscreens. I also use their "regular" face sunscreen, it feels like sunscreen, but has NEVER caused a breakout. I use this every time that I go out unless I'm going from home-car-inside-car-home. As others have said, sunscreen is very important, I'll just put a +1 to that recommendation.

On the rare occasion that I wear any makeup, I use Clinque's "Almost makeup" it is more like tinted moisturizer, probably similar to what another poster mentioned, but you can go try it out at the mall. I use it more like a moisturizer, rubbing it in instead of letting it sit on top of my skin - more to even skin tone than to do any cover-up. Can't really feel it, so it doesn't make me feel unnatural.

If you are having trouble with how makeup lays on your skin, try using smashbox photo finish. When we were practicing my makeup for the wedding, my cousin put this on me (color correcting - pea green! got rid of the red though), and it actually felt good, not merely tolerable. http://www.smashbox.com/PHOTO-FINISH-FOUNDATION-PRIMER.

circles under the eyes

Alternative Uses for Preparation H

Place a very small amount of Preparation H on your fingertip. Gently rub a fine coat of the ointment along the under eye area. Do not use too much as it will leave skin area shiny. Wait 20 minutes before applying eye makeup. Limit this use to emergency purposes only. Repeated use of Preparation H on any skin area can lead to an allergy to the product, along with eczema, which is a result of limiting fluid flow to the skin cells for an extended period of time.

I never wear make-up because I have no patience and I don't know how to put them on. But now that I want to hide some flaws, I want to learn and be able to wear them at least at night when we go out.

(Don't mind the name please, I hit enter by mistake and my log in name got stuck as is)

This thread is great! I thought I was the only one with make up issues.

I almost never wear make up, and when I do I just go with a lip gloss and maybe a little eye shadow.

As a teenager and beyond I was blessed with clear skin, when all my friends were struggling with acne I had baby skin. Then after I turned 18 I started taking the pill as a hormone therapy and kept using for both that and birth control for several years. I'm 29 now and am on a break from the pill as I keep reading I shouldn't keep taking it for such a long time and since I stopped I started having these break outs on my cheeks. Usually it's one zit on each cheek, and they keep coming back.

I also have always had really dark circle around my eyes, even if I sleep 10 hrs everyday, I had them even when I was 2 years old so I know it's not simply stress or bad sleeping habits, although those make it worse, of course.

One of the reasons I never wear make up even though my dream is getting rid of the dark circles is the fact that I feel I start melting whenever I put make up on. Specially living here in Puerto Rico the moment I finish the make up I feel sweaty on my face and the make up looks fake and heavy and melty.

I'm a cheap b!tch about these things so I've always wanted to find stuff that works well but doesn't break my bank. These tips are awesome.

Oh, and my future plan is getting laser treatment done on my dark circles to kill some pigment and make it lighter.

Btw Nessa, the only base I wear is a tinted lotion with SPF 30 by Natura. That is when I wear something.

Hey Nessa, as VJs makeup resident expert, I would LOOOOOVE to give you a free one time only makeup consultation B)

If your skin is too oily, I think mineral makeup will work the best for you  since it absorbs oils and whatnot. Stila has a very nice foundation primer with SPF that is not oily (most are and it svcks) and on top you can put the powder mineral foundation. With your skintone; I would recommend a bronzer instead of a blush.(the cheapest ones are from WetNWild and they are the shiznit; if you want to splurge go for FX bronzer).

For eye shadows, the cheap and awesome Maybelline or Prestige that you get at the drugstore are super nice; although if you have oily sking the Maybellines or the new Revlon matte might work better. Splurge: definitely MAC eye shadows. Oh oh oh; and underneath the eyeshadows always apply a primer. My fave is Urban Decay potion primer ($17) but you can also get the ULTA one for like 12 bucks. The shadows will stay there until you take them off :)

For skincare, Julia/Squirrel is the to-go girl on VJ.

Email me menina :)

and the next time you say you have midlife crisis, I will b1tchslap you. There, I said it.

Yes Yes Yes to mineral products!

Okay - I always try to read an entire thread before I post in it. As I was reading down though I kept asking myself - when is SOMEBODY going to suggest mineral foundations? Leave it to Sister Len to come up with the right answer.

Everybody here knows I'm already into the 'aging' process. So what I can offer here is what I should have done when I was younger, which would have been to have used a great moisturizer. I never bothered because I was EXTREMELY oily and also fought acne. The plus of being oily skinned is you will get fewer wrinkles as other women your age, but they WILL come eventually.

For acne if you have not tried Pro-Active, then please do.

I am one of those people who thinks you don't have to pay jillions of dollars for products. IMO the world's best moisturizing products are Avon Ageless Results. I didn't start using a moisturizer till my late 30's. I've tried dozens and to me a lot of them are just greasy. I started using Ageless Results about four years ago and just love it - it is very light and feels natural. There are both day and night creams.

The mineral foundation I use is Avon Smooth Minerals. I will never go back to using a liquid foundation. It takes a few days to get used to applying foundation with a big brush but you get the hang of it fast enough. It is light and feels like wearing no foundation at all. And it doesn't melt away or fade as the day goes on, even with an oily complexion.

Bags under your eyes? You are taking care of a baby and not getting enough rest, for heavens sake! Get as much rest as you can and drink plenty of water. Also, your body is different now since you have had a child. It has to recover. You need to give it some time. If the women in your family have under-eye circles, you can expect to also get them eventually and for them to 'darken' as you age. Find a nice concealer and learn to apply it so you don't look like a 'reverse' raccoon. Both my sister and I (she is 48 - I am 51) got our under-eye baggage from Mom. I don't know which concealer she uses - again I use an Avon product called Beyond Color Radiant Lifting Concealer. It's liquid in a mascara type tube and is applied with a brush. I like it because it is fluid enough that I can smooth it out with my pinkie finger without pulling on the delicate skin around the eye.

I should add that I am often told my makeup looks 'beautiful' and natural. I'm also told often that I do not look 51.

Oh great tips Rebecca! I've been using the Avon +25 anew nighttime cream for a while now, but I often forget to put it on. I need to get more on point with that. And for the eyes I use the Avon Ageless Results Renewing Eye cream, but dunno, I can't really see if it's doing any good for my dark circles.

The idea for the concealer is great though, I'll look into it for sure.

Also, Len, when you say Maybelline and Revlon eye shadow do you mean powder or cream? I have Revlon's cream ones and I've been using them for a while, even got a friend from Brasil hooked on it but sometimes I feel like they shine too much, but maybe it's the colors that I am getting. And I liked to bronzer idea as well, I never got myself a bronzer and I think blush makes me look childish somehow, I just use a dash of a cream blush to make me more alive.

Oh, and Nessa, for the tired eyes because of little sleeping post baby you should soak some cotton balls into cold camomile tea and apply to reduce puffiness.
