The Cake Smoosh

Ok, so I'm watching TLC while sipping my wine and the program is about 'Wild Weddings'. Can someone explain the 'tradition' that some couples adopt of smooshing cake in each other's faces? Yeah, it's cute. Yeah it cuts the tension... but c'mon.

Thoughts anyone?

I tend to shy away from doing anything just for tradition sake. If at that moment, you suddenly feel the urge to smoosh cake in your spouse's face, then it's genuine, otherwise it just seems contrived.

Just in general, for the whole wedding, I'd say screw tradition for tradition sake. If it makes sense, do it, but if you feel pressed to do something just because "that's what everybody else does at their wedding" is just plain lame in my opinion.

my hubby smooshed the cake in my face.. most of it ended up in my mouth..... boy, was that cake yummy!! I can't quite remember but I am pretty sure I repayed the favour

No, we did the feeding each other thing, but avoided the "smoosh"....we didn't see the point I also bucked tradition with the garter. It is supposed to be thrown to a group of single men (after the bride throws her bouquet), the idea being that the man who catches it will be the next to marry. I simply walked over to my best man and handed it to him, saying he needed the help the most

We fed each other a piece of cake. But no smooshing. Our wedding venue strongly advised against it, since they'd had Brides get nose bleeds from getting the cake smooshed in their faces by the groom.

Not good on a wedding day.

As we went to feed eachother, all of Dave's firefighter friends were shouting at me to smoosh him, as I went to feed him, I said "don't you dare"... he said, "I love dares" and I knew I was doomed.

Cake was yummy too!
