All the dogs around town are named BUBBA...

Sense of inner Peace .....

we always feel safe (not just because we have guns in every room of the home), and we are not concerned with what others may think of our lifestyle.

High sense of Duty and Honor - we defend their Sacred Honor and will not tolerate those who disparage their families, traditions or loved-ones. Many a surprised outside has pondered this while visiting the Emergency Room after flipping-off anyone in our town....

Disregard for Time - A true town person does not respect man-made time lines and lives life one day at a time. A true town person (here) may put a car up on-blocks for a decade before restoring it.

Sounds ya are in redneck country, bubba, where not only the dogs are named Bubba. If a man ain't named Billy Ray or Billy Bob, or any two-word first name, his name must be Bubba! Go hog wild now.

To answer the starter's question, my darlin' says she likes Dixie so far and reckon she don't miss Moncada, Tarlac that much yet. She's too busy fixin' the house right now, as busy as a stump-tailed cow in fly time and I just piddle!

The South shall rise again!

It was almost 2 weeks now since I arrived here in phoenix, arizona and I love it here. But the first few days, I got nosebleed and can't hardly breath coz of too much heat but everything is great now. The place where I lived is really peaceful and silent that only the birds chirp you can only hear. I just miss the beach, aside from that, everything is great

My fellow immigrants,

I just arrived here in America and everything is going well for me so far. I am bored right now, though, for I’m alone in the house as my man won’t be home from work till around 6:30 PM (Pacific). Our life together is on the right track, sweet and happy, and I presume that your relationships are too.

So, I won’t ask you how everything goes but I’d like to ask you how do you like the community or town that you have settled in. In my case, Cave Creek, Arizona fits my lifestyle. Cave Creek is a small bedroom community in the Desert Southwest, just outside Phoenix, with a wide open sky and a landscape replete with saguaros and other cacti. And on a tranquil night, you may hear a coyote disturbing the silence as it serenades the moon and the stars. It’s dry and hot here, much warmer than my native Baguio City, but I can manage the heat. I love it here.

How about you? How do you like your new American hometown? :star:

Nice post Mariquita. I would love to hear coyote making noises in the middle of the night. I wonder what do they sound like? Are they really ugly like the Coyote ugly word? LOL We only got opossums here who make weird noises behind our property sometimes. But the sounds of the blue jays and squirrels make are music to my ears.

I fell in love with Sonoma County the first time I saw it because of the wide and open space here. In our neck of the woods, vineyards are everywhere as far as your eyes can see and the free wine tasting is an added bonus if you are playing tourist, dotted Redwood trees, Douglas fir trees and Oak trees along the hills. It's breathtaking. My husband doesn't seem to appreciate the beauty of the place where we live. But I do. Like you, I like the temperature in the Spring and Summer here in Northern California. I think I finally come home to Mr. Bill. :star:

Marie, with all the redwoods and vineyards, your neck of the woods is a pretty locale. My favorite champagne, Korbel, comes from your backyard. We used to live there in the Bay Area, in Union City, Calif., and I loved that region of the Golden State.

My wife loves it here. The whole Island of Kauai is like PI, except the north shore and Poipu area. There are chickens, pigs and goats around us. Also Marunguy? sp, bitttermelon, kalamansi and other gulay grow right outside my door. Ilocano is heard more often than English here, hehe. So my wife has no problems here.

I saw this from one of TV documentaries while i was still in the Philippines. The first filipino migrants are from ilocano areas. Those ilocanos were hired to work on US fields. Then the ilocano migrant workers recommended their relatives or got their relatives from the philippines...

Its no surprise that there would be a lot of ilocanos in the US.

I love our place very much. I haven't had any trouble at all. I love watching the wild birds too. We have many varieties of them. We have 5 chickens (1 rooster & 4 hens). My husband bought them, so it reminds me of phils. We get eggs everyday. We just give some of them to our neighbors. We have 10 acres of land. Most of our friends likes our place, especially pilipinos. I really like our place. It's surrounded by trees, peaceful, quiet and fresh and we can also be just about naked outside.:blush:

We live in a suburb here in Indiana and I am liking it here. My hubby's parents, siblings, aunts & uncles and cousins just live few blocks away from our house so we are all close to each other and I often see his relatives which I like the most :) We are close to grocery stores, schools, post office, churches, pharmacy and hospital so we don't have a hard time getting into the things that we need to do. All those places are just few blocks away from our house so they are very accessible. There are lots of kids here in our neighborhood which is another reason why I like it here. I have a pinay neighbor too which lives 4 houses away so I guess I am lucky hehe.

I love where we are living now

Have I told you before that I used to live in the Bay Area? Not at Castro District however, but at Union City and San Jose.

You know what, some residents of the Southern California towns of West Hollywood and Cathedral City are probably regulars at Guerneville. They are in tank tops, with flowers on their hair, and are drinking Zinfandel (ladies' wine).

Good thread. I'm not at all surprised by the number of posts coming from people that live in Phoenix. My wife loves it here, though the dry weather has been a bother for her so far.

Some of you who live here might relate to this. Given my wife's observations and experiences in Phoenix so far, I've tried to put them into perspective for her. For example:

1. Except for this week, the summer has been great so far. Temps in the 90's, and it even rained for several days in May, which most of you know never happens here. She thinks it's perfectly normal; I try to explain otherwise.

2. As many of you know, the rush-hour traffic has been really decent the last several months. Perhaps it's the economy, perhaps it's gas prices, perhaps it's the new LRT. Who's to say, but again, she hasn't seen the real thing.

3. Regarding sports, the Suns were horrible. She knew how good they were, so she was disappointed about their season.

4. She has learned to love football. She was here for exactly one month when the Cardinals went to the Superbowl. She thinks they do this every year! Oh god...

My husband lives in a small community here in Rhode Island (which happened to be the smallest state of USA for some people who always ask me where is this located). My first stop in this area was Massachusetts last 2007. I met my husband (who's from here) so I moved in his house. I like the weather here now especially if I see rabbits, squirrels, cute chipmunks etc. I also like summer of course (which happens to be real hot like the Philippines) and of course fall (where the trees turned different colors). But I also like the place of my sister (Palmdale and Lancaster California). I guess I am the type of person who easily adjust to where I am. I hope all of you like your American hometown also.

hello, fellow pinay! i'm here in RI too! in which town are you? i like the weather here, not too much snow, unlike in other states, easy to get around. i would like to get in touch with other pinoys here. do you attend mass? where?

  • 7 months later...

My husband and I live near Mount Pleasant, Michigan (in Central Michigan). I love our neighborhood. We live right by a lake and our neighbors' houses aren't that close to ours so we have a lot of privacy. Our neighbors are really nice - we stop and talk when I take our dogs out for walks and they always wave when they walk by and we're out on our deck or yard.

The only thing I don't like is how cold it gets... I can't wait for summer!
