I used to like Vallejo, CA when I first got here because of the many Filipino establishments but now my husband and I are thinking of moving somewhere else. You probably heard that Vallejo filed bankcruptcy and that tremendously affected the service you get from the city government especially the police. The crime rate is growing and the city government is planning to lay off more policemen before the year ends. I do like California though and if ever we move somewhere else it will be a city close to Vallejo like Benicia so that we can still go to Island Pacific every weekends. You won't really feel that much homesick when you are in Vallejo because almost everything from PI is here but I just hope that one day Vallejo will be a safer place to live in.

To the OP thanks for starting this forum...

We live in Clay City, IL. A little town with less than 1000 population. I like so much where we are in this town...It can be called "in middle of nowhere." A 5-acre lot with big trees around it. During spring to summer I can't see neigbor but fall comes to winter we can start see neigbors' houses. You can smell skunk and hog farms once in a while as they said country smell which I don't like.

Squirrels everywhere, there is possum too...scary sometimes. During the start of the spring season, very nice sound outside, birds singing and leaves blown by air. So far I enjoyed the spring and summer season, planting flowering and ornamental plants and taking care of our little garden planted with tomatoes, potato, union and green pepper...

I really love our place, it's like living in Philippines less the snow...

Have a good evening!!!

yup, i live in hawaii now and its nice here..there are many filipino here in hawaii...but some people you might think they are pinoy too coz there are also micronesians here and they look the same with pinoy but some are fat hehehhehe..

there is an asian store here in chinatown...you can find pinoy foods there...the weather is fine just like in pi so you wont have any problem in being cold and freezing a$$ just like in some states...there are many tourists in waikiki beach and the beach is clean too...people here dont really care of what you wear so you can wear bikini if you want even you are fat coz its not like in pi people will make fun of you or laugh at you.

and what i like here in usa is car really respect the pedestrian lane not like in pi..if you will cross in a pedestrain lane some driver wont stop and wait for you to cross most of the time you need to run or the jeepney driver will honk at you and get mad or shout at you...stupid. and there is really sidewalk for people to walk without any holes or vendor selling and occupying the sidewalk not like in pi.

hawaii is just like in pi but much better.

My fellow immigrants,

I just arrived here in America and everything is going well for me so far. I am bored right now, though, for I’m alone in the house as my man won’t be home from work till around 6:30 PM (Pacific). Our life together is on the right track, sweet and happy, and I presume that your relationships are too.

So, I won’t ask you how everything goes but I’d like to ask you how do you like the community or town that you have settled in. In my case, Cave Creek, Arizona fits my lifestyle. Cave Creek is a small bedroom community in the Desert Southwest, just outside Phoenix, with a wide open sky and a landscape replete with saguaros and other cacti. And on a tranquil night, you may hear a coyote disturbing the silence as it serenades the moon and the stars. It’s dry and hot here, much warmer than my native Baguio City, but I can manage the heat. I love it here.

How about you? How do you like your new American hometown? :star:

I like Phoenix, AZ. I got friends around here. And some of my friends from the Philippines visit Phoenix at least once a year. Dont really get bored. So many things to do.

Mariquita Linda,

My hubby been inviting me to go to cave creek just to go to a steeler's bar there...just to watch steelers game. Have you heard of it from your hubby.

Yeah, he says he knows about it but he's never been there. Besides, football is not in season right now and he follows the AZ Cardinals. And damn the Steelers for beating the Cardinals in the Super Bowl, he adds. :star:

Hmmm, i dont really know if i do. My husband who's born and raised dont even like it here lol. Especially that i dont have any filipino in our area. I dunno, most people here in NY are just different...impossible, rude, loud, impatient, insensitive, boastful, proud..... No offense to those from here. :hehe:

Where in NY do u live? Im here in Long Island.

Anyways, to answer the thread. Been here in LI, NY for a month now and I love my place! very much the same as my village in Pinas. quiet, peaceful and most of my neigbors are nice. I can jog whenever I want and our unit is near the beach which is very calm for me. Although weather sucks this past few week. Our house is just near hubby and I's family which is really nice and convenient for us too. And what I love also, is that we're near the shops, grocery, restaurants and I totally love it coz I can just go there if I want to shop. lol;p

Nice post Mariquita. I would love to hear coyote making noises in the middle of the night. I wonder what do they sound like? Are they really ugly like the Coyote ugly word? LOL We only got opossums here who make weird noises behind our property sometimes. But the sounds of the blue jays and squirrels make are music to my ears.

I fell in love with Sonoma County the first time I saw it because of the wide and open space here. In our neck of the woods, vineyards are everywhere as far as your eyes can see and the free wine tasting is an added bonus if you are playing tourist, dotted Redwood trees, Douglas fir trees and Oak trees along the hills. It's breathtaking. My husband doesn't seem to appreciate the beauty of the place where we live. But I do. Like you, I like the temperature in the Spring and Summer here in Northern California. I think I finally come home to Mr. Bill. :star:

Marie, with all the redwoods and vineyards, your neck of the woods is a pretty locale. My favorite champagne, Korbel, comes from your backyard. We used to live there in the Bay Area, in Union City, Calif., and I loved that region of the Golden State.

I am glad you like Korbel. It's only a few miles from Forestville. Rumor has it that Guerneville is where all the gay people hang out and party, but it is where you can find one of the best champagnes in the world -- Korbel :star:

Hokey Smoke!

Rocky: "Baby, are they still mad at us on VJ?"

Bullwinkle: "No, they are just confused."

I love our neighborhood. We live blocks away from the supermarket, bank, school, park and restaurants. Not much different from the city I grew up. I have adjusted to the weather too. I love the spring and summer seasons and the flowers blooming everywhere. We have a garden and I am looking forward to picking the cherries, tomato and cucumber soon. Sometimes, I can see a squirrel playing around our yard.

People around here are nice and courteous and they follow the traffic rules. We usually bring our own grocery bags when shopping and most people in the neighborhood have a recycling bin too.

The Asian stores and Filipino restaurants are just 30 minutes away from home.

I am more than a week here in Joliet, IL and I love this place. I like it here because it's a suburb, almost like 50 mins away from Chicago. Our place is just really near to all establishments, I could just walk or ride a bicycle to roam around and yet very peaceful. Our neighbors here are so wonderful. I was given chocolates as welcome gift. There's a Filipino store near to our place, like 15 mins driving.

I like how the infrastructures have been made here for 100 years I guess because Joliet is an old town founded by French. I love the food here, and most of the people here are smiling or waving to me (so I smile or wave back too... Hehehehe), and sometimes will greet me and ask me "How are you?".

Then, most of the time, I am getting free treats from resto.
