My fellow immigrants,

I just arrived here in America and everything is going well for me so far. I am bored right now, though, for I’m alone in the house as my man won’t be home from work till around 6:30 PM (Pacific). Our life together is on the right track, sweet and happy, and I presume that your relationships are too.

So, I won’t ask you how everything goes but I’d like to ask you how do you like the community or town that you have settled in. In my case, Cave Creek, Arizona fits my lifestyle. Cave Creek is a small bedroom community in the Desert Southwest, just outside Phoenix, with a wide open sky and a landscape replete with saguaros and other cacti. And on a tranquil night, you may hear a coyote disturbing the silence as it serenades the moon and the stars. It’s dry and hot here, much warmer than my native Baguio City, but I can manage the heat. I love it here.

How about you? How do you like your new American hometown? :star:

My girl, Pilar, loves it here in El Paso. Specially when she first noticed that the phone book listed a huge bunch of Filipino names like Alvarez, Gonzales, Rodriguez, Chavez, Santos, Cruz, etc.! I had to remind her that Divisoria (Ciudad Juarez, Mexico) is just a few kilometers away from the house. Seriously, she very well likes it here, and she now prefers fajitas and enchiladas over pancit and chicken tinola. :star:

Nice post Mariquita. I would love to hear coyote making noises in the middle of the night. I wonder what do they sound like? Are they really ugly like the Coyote ugly word? LOL We only got opossums here who make weird noises behind our property sometimes. But the sounds of the blue jays and squirrels make are music to my ears.

I fell in love with Sonoma County the first time I saw it because of the wide and open space here. In our neck of the woods, vineyards are everywhere as far as your eyes can see and the free wine tasting is an added bonus if you are playing tourist, dotted Redwood trees, Douglas fir trees and Oak trees along the hills. It's breathtaking. My husband doesn't seem to appreciate the beauty of the place where we live. But I do. Like you, I like the temperature in the Spring and Summer here in Northern California. I think I finally come home to Mr. Bill. :star:

My husband lives in a small community here in Rhode Island (which happened to be the smallest state of USA for some people who always ask me where is this located). My first stop in this area was Massachusetts last 2007. I met my husband (who's from here) so I moved in his house. I like the weather here now especially if I see rabbits, squirrels, cute chipmunks etc. I also like summer of course (which happens to be real hot like the Philippines) and of course fall (where the trees turned different colors). But I also like the place of my sister (Palmdale and Lancaster California). I guess I am the type of person who easily adjust to where I am. I hope all of you like your American hometown also.

I am still trying to figure it out.....it only few years since moved here...

Let me see.....i can i best describe it......so I am going to be humorous about it...hopefully you all enjoy my home town as much as I do...LMAO

Love the trailer parks.......

All the dogs around town are named BUBBA...

Sense of inner Peace .....

we always feel safe (not just because we have guns in every room of the home), and we are not concerned with what others may think of our lifestyle.

High sense of Duty and Honor - we defend their Sacred Honor and will not tolerate those who disparage their families, traditions or loved-ones. Many a surprised outside has pondered this while visiting the Emergency Room after flipping-off anyone in our town....

Disregard for Time - A true town person does not respect man-made time lines and lives life one day at a time. A true town person (here) may put a car up on-blocks for a decade before restoring it.

I live here in Palm Springs, California for almost a year now. Palm Springs is one of the desert city of Riverside County, Southern California and It's one of 9 adjacent cities that make up the Coachella Valley, it's just a small town but a popular one. There's a few large buildings which i like , it's peaceful, no crimes, serene, home of other hollywood celebrities, the weather is good. During winter there's no snow on the ground just on the mountains but still cold and a little bit hot during summer but i like it. Golf, swimming, hiking and tennis are the major recreations here in Palm Springs.

People are so wonderful in here. I love the community/town that i'm living right now... :)

Thanks mariquita linda for opening this thread...

Cotote ugly is in reference to ugly women rather than a coyote being ugly. A coyote will chew its leg off when caught in a foot trap. The term coyote ugly use to mean a person is so ugly you would rather chew your arm off than wake up the person laying on it.

@Pepe, Many times the Mexicans mistake my wife as a mexican. One day I got tired of telling them she does not speak Spanish and told the guy waiting on her that she is hard of hearing. :jest:

Oh I forgot to mention winter time (this is the season I hate seriously). Why? Because I fell in our driveway 2x. No matter how careful I was, I still fell. Up to now I am feeling the pain which led me to have an MRI in our state hospital here. But I have to live with it because my husband lived here all his life and their family has a business here where he also works. Sounds as if I don't have any choice, kinda or sort of.

Marie, with all the redwoods and vineyards, your neck of the woods is a pretty locale. My favorite champagne, Korbel, comes from your backyard. We used to live there in the Bay Area, in Union City, Calif., and I loved that region of the Golden State.
