I just want to ask. Here in US, If a woman got married, How do they usually write their full names? What will be the middle name? will it be their old middle name or their last name will replace it? Because I am from the Philippines and in our country we're usually using our mother's last name as our middle name and when married usually the last name will be the middle name. But I got confuse when my husband told me that I should still use my Old middle name since it is in my records?

Any one here who can enlighten me with that? Thanks.

Most would keep their middle name and take their husbands last name. For example:

Before marriage Jane Louise Doe

After marriage Jane Louise Jack

BUT many women are also going with:

After marriage Jane Louise Doe-Jack

And some with:

After marriage Jane Doe Jack

It's really up to you.

Ok, i Understand. Thank you. So there are no legal laws regarding that. I can still make my last name as my middle name. I want it that way though but husband cant understand it coz he haven't encountered such situation.;)

My wife changed her middle name to her maiden name as is the Philippine custom. The only hard part we found was getting two first names into government computer systems because the format of the electronic form does not allow a space between names.

Example: Billy Bob J. Thorton must be Billybob J. Thorten.

I (the USC) kept my maiden name as my new middle name (so now it's first name/maiden name/last name). This has been the best thing I've ever, ever done--it's made life a MILLION times easier. Now I have my maiden name still on my driver's license and passport, so there's no question about things like plane tickets, bank accounts, insurance policies, etc. So, so much easier. I highly recommend this route!

In the United States (ALL states) a woman has the choice to use ANY combination of names of her and her husband as she chooses. The most common is for her to keep her first and middle names intact and simply use her husbands last name. Some use both last names, usually the husband's last. In this case you just add your husbands last name to the end of whatever name you already have. You can have as many "names" as you like. You are not limited to "three". The middle name is not affected, usually, but you can change that also if you want. As long as it is one of the names n the marriage lisence, you can choose what you want. The older way was for the woman to use her entire husbands name (first, middle and last) and add "mrs" as a prefix, but I think almost no one does that anymore, at least not officially.

Now, many women choose not to change their names at all. It is entirely your decision

My wife kept her "maiden" name in the Russian patrynomic tradition, her last name is her father's first name with the suffix "ova". In the Russian tradition it is normal for the man, wife and boys and girls to have different last names. Boys get "ovich" or "of" and girls get "ova" "aya" "ovna" added to the first name of the father
