You don't really need either one unless you are not at the poverty level on income and trying to use assets as a basis for your support documents.

Anyway bank statements from last year or a letter from bank stating deposits for last year, balance at the time are pretty much the same thing.

Those are used as evidence that supports your I-134 so both/or are valid.

You may not need it but the I-134 instructions say to include a letter from your bank stating date account was opened, total of your last 12 months deposits and current balance.

They didnt look at the one I sent my fiance either but why take a chance?

Your bank should be able to supply you with a statement how long your account has been open, average balance, ect. I walked into my back and ten minutes latter had what I needed.

Either is optional if his income is sufficient and documented. They prefer a "bank letter". Some banks are reluctant to give this so people use 12 months bank statements instead.
