what phone company do you have? i have optimum, and they have this international plan, i get 250 minutes for $20 to call morocco (algeria is probably the same - its just an international plan, you can research it though), and i can do it twice per month (thats 500 minutes per month for $40). i just found this other site too called www.kleema.com that i just signed up for myself (they offer plans for morocco and algeria). check it out and read about it from their site. if you cant use internet, use the phone and call her. itll cost a little more but its worth it if you cant keep in touch any other way. talk to her about arranging times to call though. you probably dont want to be calling while shes eating dinner with her family lol.

as for the other advice henia seems to know a lot more about algeria, im more familiar with morocco. my fiancee told her parents about me and arranged the meeting for me, but if their family is more traditional talk to the father first for sure, especially since he is the one who is more open to you at this point, and as the man of the house he does have the ultimate decision-making responsibilites, even if the mom tries to sway him. so make contact with him somehow. perhaps even over the phone, your fiancee/girlfriend can translate for you if theres no other way for you to directly communicate with him due to the language barrier (unless you think you can manage).

Esalaams,

Thanks Jim I will read it in a moment then reply. If you are already in Alger, looking for cheap transport/donnot have too much baggage I would take the train. The trains are rather fast and low cost. The train station is located near the famous street in Alger centre (You cannot miss it) right off the port and near the bus station. Maybe a 10 max 15m ride from the airport by car. You could fly via Air Algerie but this obviously would cost more.

If you can bring a Quad mobile phone with you so can buy a puce (SIM) card from either Nedjma or Mobilis. Donnot bother with Djezzy. Then you ca call her from it normally - it's pay as you go plans here. So reading the PM.

I read most of your posts about this issue and I believe most of the replies are really helpful. I believe you should put your marriage in the proper setting, an Algerian setting. Marriage in Algeria, as in most of the Muslim countries thankfully is not an individual personal matter. It's a family matter. Your fiancee's mother is not being a nut or a pain in the ... she's being a mother. she rather see her daughter married to a good person who shares the culture and the land (she wants her daughter to stay close to her) than married to a good person coming from "nowhere." Also marriage in Algeria brings not only two people together, but too families together, so they rather marry their daughter to someone whom they know the family than "a stranger".

So when you understand that all what the family wants is the best for their daughter, you will know from which angle approach them. Good luck.

P.S. Marriage is an important issue that needs time to get done.
