My husband came over on May 12, and we went to the SSA on May 29th, and were told he wasn't in the SAVE system, so we went ahead with the manual verification. He's from Ireland and so went through customs in Shannon, Ireland rather than his POE in the US. Maybe that has something to do with the delay? It's been two weeks now and still no word. I just called the office and they haven't heard anything either.

Does anyone else have any experience with the manual verification? How long did it take? Anyone from Ireland with this problem?

I came in through Minneapolis/St. Paul and also had to go through manual verification.

I went to the SS Office about three weeks after I got here, and after they initiated the manual verification I had to wait roughly another three weeks until I received the card. My guess would be you'll hear something soon.

If not, I'd go back and ask them, they don't seem to be the most organized organisation out there....

Good luck!

I wasn't in the SAVE system when I applied either. It was seven weeks between applying for and receiving my social security card.

Geez, thanks for that, at least we don't have to panic just yet.

It took us 7 weeks. The first time we went to the local SSN office they said my wife was not in the system. We waited and waited and heard nothing. We went back to the SN office and was again told not in syatem. We mnade an appointment with tyhe local Dept. of Homeland Security Office and they said the immigration officers at her POE never entered her in the system. We then went to the local airport and met with Ciustoms and Border Patrol officers. They took my wifes passport and I-94 with them and when thjey returned said she was in the system and the problem was at the SSN office. We then went back to the SSN office and she was found in the system but the real problem was the immigration officer at POE entered her name in the system not spelled correctly. Look at your I-94 ansd make sure the name is spelled correctly, if not, have the SSN office look in the system as the name is spelled on your I-94.

Good luck

Update: We went back to the SSA yesterday, nearly 4 weeks after our initial application for my husband's SSN. It was right near closing time (we thought they closed at 4:30 but it's 4) so the woman said she'd look up our case and call us when she found the application because we got to the window right at 3:58 and she couldn't work overtime that day. Well lo and behold, this morning (Saturday!!! apparently she was saving her overtime for the weekend) at 9 AM she was on the phone to us and said she'd heard from DHS today and that his SSN was in the mail.

I just have two thoughts on this. First, she mentioned that the man that put our case through was on vacation. I suspect that the DHS approval had been sitting around either forgotten or waiting for the original agent to come back to finish processing. So, if you end up in the same boat as us, don't be afraid to go back and ask again. Also, she told me specifically that no matter what phone number we call, the local office or the main line, no one would be able to give us any information beyond the very basics; nothing about the status of our case. So my advice: GO IN TO CHECK ON YOUR CASE, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON THE PHONE.

Second, I do feel that we were treated very well throughout the whole experience and I was SO appreciative that she was kind enough to offer to call us back on a Saturday and actually did so. If anyone is looking for a good SSA office I HIGHLY recommend the one in Lakewood on Detroit Ave. (Cleveland, Ohio area). Mr. West was our original processor, and there were absolutely no questions asked about my husband's K-1 visa or application (except for the whole manual verification thing, not his fault). Initially we went to the SSA office on Shaker Blvd. and had a very different experience before leaving to try Lakewood, so save yourself the stress, avoid the Shaker Blvd. office AT ALL COSTS.

I hope this helps someone in the future...
