US Conditional Resident/Working in Canada?

Sorry, I know this may be in the wrong category. I'm not really sure where it should go though.

I actually have two questions. My husband is from Canada. We've already gone through AOS and he's a conditional resident as of now. My first question: if we live close to the US/Canada border, is he allowed to work in Canada, or not?

My second question: How do I become a duel citizen, or I guess what do we have to do with his application and all before or during the time where I can be able to work in Canada as well so that we could potentially move up there one day so I can work.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

A few Canadians on VJ do work in Canada while living in the U.S. - so yes, it is certainly possible.

As for your second question, about becoming a Canadian Permanent resident. The procedure is similar to the American immigration procedure - however it is simpler.

First of all, there are two ways to lodge the application, with both of you living in Canada or with you living in the U.S..

It generally takes a year or less and basically you submit all your paperwork at once, pay the fees and then wait for your application to be processed. Once approved, you would be a permanent resident of Canada.

If you are living with your Canadian spouse in another country - that is technically considered Canadian 'residency' - so you would be able to maintain your Canadian PR status. Lots of information here
